PENNY HALFPENNY: 1918 1d red Die I Post Office Envelope uprated to private order with ½d green Menuz #15, vertical fold consistent with it having been previously posted under cover, superb 'TARRINGTON/ 22MR20/VIC' cds, grossly undercatalogued at $US1000. PENNY HALFPENNY: 1918 1d carmine + ½d dull green Menuz #25 on cream stock for Shire of South Gippsland very early local usage at 'FOSTER/VIC' on 28NO18, flap unsealed. [The shire heading is printed over the ½d embossing which suggests that both impressions were applied to the envelope at the same time, rather than this being an earlier 1d Envelope that has been uprated. This may well be what happened for any requisitions ordered after the war tax was introduced, on 28/10/1918, and supplied prior to the availability, by late-1918, of a 1½d die]
