SOUTH AUSTRALIA - Official Stamps - Departmental Overprints
Scurrilous group of generally quite amateurish forged overprints including 'A' & 'V.' both rubber-stamped in violet!, 'A.O.' in blue on 9d red-violet!, 'L.L.' on '8 PENCE' on 9d!, a gorgeous 'I.A.' in rosine on 1d yellow-green & an almost convincing 'P.A.' on Rouletted 2d pair. (Qty 13)
1854-1912 mostly used collection including "Penny Black" (3, one torn), Hillman 1857 6d grey-black (faded), 1860 4d deep blue unused, plus other classics that are more-or-less faulty and 3 forgeries; later issues include 1874 1d on 2d, 1902-12 2/- & 2/6d and Wmk Crown CA 6d Internal Revenue mint, etc. Possible postmark interest. (Qty 120)
SOUTH AFRICA - (Provinces)
CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: 1852 & 1853 outers with forgeries of the oval 'PORT ELIZABETH/MAY 24 1852/TO PAY' d/s (superb!) & 'PORT ELIZABETH/AUGT 29 1853/PAID' d/s (fine). (Qty 2)
CAPE OF GOOD HOPE: 1864 Jurgens fabricated cover with very fine embossed revenue 1d horizontal strip of 4 tied by 3 'C/G H' cancels, oval 'VILLIERS-DORP/OC7/1864' & 'CAPE-TOWN/D/OC8/64/CAPE-COLONY' backstamps. A very convincing fake.
