AUSTRALIA: 1881 Christmas/New Year card (109x148mm) with five small vignette illustrations, romantic verse by Miss C McKay & artist's name 'CH HUNT' at the base, printed 'PRIZE DESIGNS/JOHN/ SANDS/COPYRIGHT' on the reverse where endorsed "For George/with Aunt's Love/1881", a couple of insignificant edge blemishes & minor toning on the reverse not affecting the very fine facial appearance. Rare, and very early Australian example of the multi-coloured chromo-lithography process, from the first series of Christmas Cards produced entirely in Australia. [Sydney printers John Sands & Co imported the equipment necessary for the specific purpose of printing Christmas cards. They conducted a local design competition & published 38 designs in October 1881. Three of the designs were adapted for Australia's 1982 Christmas stamps]
AUSTRALIA: 1934 & 1936 ship's menu cards postally used to Melbourne 1) for AUSN Co's SS "Orungal" from Sydney with 1d only & taxed, 2d Postage Due tied by arrival cds; and 2) for E&A Line from SS "Rabaul" - for a Chinese Banquet but lamb cutlets to order! - with New Guinea 2d tied by Rabaul cds; a few minor blemishes. GREAT BRITAIN: Bundle of 1890s marine insurance policies for various companies & with a range of impressed revenue stamps (including 1d in bluish black on perforated label), most are a bit prosaic but that for The Empress Assurance Co would lend itself to framing. Generally very fine. (Qty 16)

GREENLAND: 1930s (?) album with small photographs of Greenland subjects including Inuit portraits, snowfields, icebergs, houses & huts etc (46); then a similar range from England & Europe (a few of which may also be Greenland shots).
INDO-CHINA: Folio of 17 documents with a good variety of adhesive revenues including surcharged types (one with Inverted Surcharge) and a further 7 items of "revenue stamped paper", condition a bit variable but generally good to fine and attractive. (Qty 24 items)

1890 usage of GB 1d Envelope uprated with 1d lilac x5 tied by 'CAMBRIDGE - 158' duplex, to "His Excellency/Sir William Macgregor/Government House/Port Moresby/(British New Guinea)" via France with 'CALAIS A PARIS' (on the face) & 'PARIS A MODANE' (b/s) TPO cds plus transit b/s of 'PENANG-TO-SINGAPORE', 'SINGAPORE', 'SYDNEY' & 'COOKTOWN/JY23/90/...', minor peripheral damage & a major internal fault on the face. Rare and very early inwards mail. [With fascinating 8pp letter bearing printed 'Museum of Archaeology/Cambridge' and signed by the noted anthropologist "Anatoli v Hügel" who became friends with Macgregor in Fiji during von Hügel's important studies of the natives in the interior of Viti Levu]
