1888-89 Centennial 1d imperforate colour trial block of 4 in black on ungummed unwatermarked paper, large margins, a couple of minor tonespots. Ex Jim Johnstone. [In 1988 Rodney Perry offered by private treaty a largely complete set of 57 of the 65 possible colours all in blocks of 4, believed to be the only such "set" extant. A group of 8 blocks 1d to 20/- from this source sold for $6900 at our auction of 24/5/2008. NB: The size of the external margins shows that these proofs were derived from special plates of 4 subjects only, presumably created for the purpose of pulling these proofs]
