CHINA - FOREIGN POST OFFICES: Album of mostly Chinese PPCs used from the British (29, with Hong Kong stamps), Indian CEF (5), German (28 including 'China' Overprints & Kiautschou, plus a few unused Postal Cards), French (4) & Russian (2) Post Offices in China, some better postmarks & some excellent cards especially in the German section, most are fine to very fine. PORTUGUESE COLONIES - MACAU: Attractive selection of PPCs of buildings and panoramas mostly with captions in English, three used in Macau & two in Hong Kong otherwise unused (three with plain backs); also commercial covers to India (7), Goa (an aerogramme front only), Canada, Mozambique or Australia & 1937 flight cover to Manila, some attractive frankings; generally fine to very fine. Postmarks array including on KGV Heads mostly from New South Wales, Tasmania & Victoria with lesser contributions from other states with many largely complete or complete strikes on piece. (Qty 1500+)
Modest flight covers collection on leaves with a few better items including 1924 (June 2) Adelaide-Sydney (faults, Cat $550), 1931 (Mar 19) Melbourne-Sydney-Port Moresby per "Southern Moon", 1935 (Jul 9) Wyndham-Ord River & (Oct 28) Cairns-Cooktown, 1936 (Dec 14) Sydney-Wagga signed "WLBReeve", 1947 (Sep 15) Australia-Canada overprinted 7d Airletter with cachet in violet etc, generally fine to very fine. Mostly OHMS covers including perfins Large 'OS' 4d Roo (defective) on 1914 registered cover to Thursday Island, perf 'OS' KGV 1d red Rough Paper, 1d green single (cover with printed 'PACKET POST') & pair and 5d (registered), overprinted 'OS' 1d pair (2) & 2d (5, one with Qld State Insurance Office propaganda), others include very late 1924 usage of long 4d Kangaroo Registration Envelope with KGV ½d orange & 3d dull blue (very scarce on cover), condition rather mixed. Handy group of covers etc including 1906 PPC with fine 'BROCKS CREEK/SA' squared-circle &mmessage headed "Daly River" (Northern Territory), 1921 PPC with scarce 'LAKE ILLAWARRA SOUTH/NSW' cds, 1940s flight covers including three Mitchell (Perth) illustrated covers, then a handy group of railway-related PPCs including two Trans-Australian Railway types (one defective), real-photo types of Ceduna station & track-laying etc & philatelic covers including 1936 with scarce 'QUORN-ALICE SPRINGS/TPO' cds, condition a bit variable. 1913 (Jan 25) cover to United States with scarce combination franking of NSW ½d + Victoria 6d pair - paying 2½d rate x5 - tied by Sydney cds, minor blemishes. [Note: the Kangaroo ½d was issued in Sydney 20/1/1913 & the 6d after 18/1/1913]

1918 local cover to "Sec for Mines/Hobart" with KGV 1d red only but endorsed on the reverse "Coin 1/-" so endorsed "OR" & 'OFFICIALLY/REGISTERED/("6d") TO PAY' h/s applied in blue, early blue/black registration label, very fine boxed 'REFUSED' h/s & very late usage of double-oval 'DEAD LETTER OFFICE/TASMANIA' d/s in magenta plus DLO cds on reverse, minor blemishes.
1924 cover to Burnie with 1½d red tied by British Empire Exhibition slogan cancel of Launceston, very fine strike of the well-worn 'POSTED OUT/OF COURSE' h/s, minor blemishes. [Addressed to "Miss Tête D'Etoupes" (= Miss Pumpkinhead!), the Inspector of Schools]
1931 apparently commercial cover to England per KLM to Batavia with special flight cachet in violet, with KGV 4d olive + Roos 9d pair & 5/- tied by Caboolture (Qld) cds, endorsed "Not over 1oz" & "6/10" which is the rate paid, flap missing & minor blemishes. [The AAMC states the rate to GB was 3/6d per ½oz but Breckon - "Philately from Australia" (Sep 2007) states it was 3/4d. We suggest both are correct: it was 3/6d for the first ½oz, & 3/4d for each subsequent ½oz]
1934-35 commercial registered covers with provisional registration labels in red from Queensland POs Apple Tree Creek, Dalysford (cancelled at Bundaberg) & Guluguba, and in blue from Jimboomba, Southport & Ulorongary (cancelled at Brisbane), also very late usage of 'REGISTERED/MA MA CREEK' h/s used in lieu of label, minor faults. Very scarce group. (Qty 7)
1940 (Jan 11) cover from Italy per KLM flight that crashed off Bali with stamps washed-off & superb strike of the large 'RECOVERED FROM/LOST FLYING BOAT' h/s (an error, as it was a lnd plane), Australian Censor h/s & tape, Nierinck Cat SFr250 (1995); also 1939 part-cover from England per "Koranga" with boxed 'DAMAGED BY WATER/THROUGH ACCIDENT/TO FLYING BOAT' h/s, unpriced by Nierinck. (Qty 2)
1940 "Clipper" cover to Illinois with 3d AIF (apparently affixed for surface mail) & Kangaroo 2/- pair (paying the 4/- rate) tied by Sydney cds. Unusually fine for such covers.
THURSDAY ISLAND: Commercial covers including two with BN '336', 1912 with superb cds with time (gorgeous Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij crest on the flap plus lengthy letter on matching stationery), 1941 Forces air cover with stamp removed but with the letter, 1956 with #2 cds & 'PAQUEBOT' h/s in violet, three 1960s with 'THURSDAY ISLAND PAQUEBOT' cds, 7 PPCs of the island, 3 philatelic covers & 4 photographs, condition variable; also Lord Howe Island wallet of photographs used.
