Ex Moreton & Brian Peace. [Edward Hammond Hargraves is generally credited with the first gold discovery in Australia, at Ophir near Bathurst in May 1851. He speaks of his anticipated reward from the NSW government "...it is sure to put £10,000 in my pocket..." (which he did receive) & of the enthusiastic reception he received in Victoria "...I was presented with a private testimonial of 250 guineas...from one merchant just as the steamer was leaving...". However, he was basically a conman & wastrel who died virtually penniless]

An exceptional missent cover. [Tomago PO opened 1/1/1862 only 5 days before this cover was received & obviously before the post office "furniture" had arrived. Hopson & Tobin record a cds only from 1868. Addressed to "Mrs R Windeyer". Lady Mary Windeyer, was prominent in charitable organisations & a pioneer of women's rights]
