CAROLINE ISLANDS: 1913 (No Publisher) PPC of "Angaur Palau-Inseln" (beach scene) to Victoria with Yachts 10pf pair tied by two fine strikes of the scarce 'ANGAUR/PALAU INSELN' cds. Great origin/destination item. [Sold for $630 in our auction of 29/3/2008]

Commercial covers including 1892 to Sydney via Singapore (b/s) witn 20pf pair tied by 'HERBERTSHOH' cds, 1909 to Belgium with superb 'ARNO KAPELL/SIMPSONHAFEN/DEUTSCH NEU-GUINEA' cachet on the flap, 1909 to Germany with 'KAISERL GOUVERNEMENT VON DEUTSCHE-NEU-GUINEA' seal on the flap (crossed by vertical fold), condition a bit mixed. (Qty 4)
1900 usage of Queensland 1d Scenic Postal Card uprated with 2d, to "SMS Möwe/Matupi/Deutsch Neu Guinea" with 'SINGAPORE' transit cds, philatelic but most appealing.
1901 Hentschel cover to Germany with Germania 5pf & 25pf tied by two superb strikes of the 'STEPHANSORT' cds, perforated registration label, 'MUSKAU' arrival b/s, opened at top & base.
1902 commercial triple-rate cover to Germany (b/s) "via Sydney per D Tanglin" with Germania 10pf x4 tied by very fine 'MATUPI' cds, imperforate registration label (Einfeldt #1; faults), flap & large red wax seal largely removed but the sender's endorsement "Abs Johs Schmidt/Matupi Bismarck Ar[...]" remains, vertical fold & minor soiling/toning.
1904 Dutch PPC ("Groet uit Banda") to Sydney with German 10pf tied by light but obvious 'DEUTSCHE SEEPOST/NEU/GUINEA/ZWEIGLINIE/(SINGAPORE)/28 10/04 b' cds, minor blemishes. Cockrill & Gottspenn state "Very rare cancellation".
1907 local commercial usage to "Tumleo/Berlinhafen" of 5pf Postal Card with two very fine strikes of the Berlinhafen cds, lengthy message. Ex Leven. [Tumleo is a tiny settlement to the east of Aitape]
1911 commercial front to Germany with a Russian transit handstamp in rosine.
1914 Nacnahme (COD) parcel card from Germany to the Neu Guinea Compagnie at Peterhafen with 20pf & 60pf x4 (only one 60pf on the face) tied by 'ERFURT' cds, very fine 'FRIEDRICH- WILHELMSHAFEN/25 7/14' arrival b/s & partial strike of the FW'hafen Customs seal, minor blemishes. [Peterhafen is on Garowe Island in the Witu Group. It was one of the remotest German outposts. A similar card also to Peterhafen sold for $1092 at our auction of 9/2/2008]
POSTAL CARDS: 1905-07 commercial usages of 5pf (3, from Finschhafen, Herbertshohe - to Holland, uprated & the message headed "Vuna Pope" - or Matupi) or 10pf (from Matupi), also three philatelically used comprising 'Nur für Marine-Schiffsposten' 10pf (may not be a New Guinea usage), 1909 5pf (+ 3pf pair) to Vladivostok with Nagasaki transit & Cyrillic arrival cds on the face, and 10pf PTPO "Gruss aus Stephansort", (Qty 7)
POSTAL CARDS: Selection on leaves apparently all-different & generally superb unused; plus philatelic usages of Oveprints 10pf (2, one a PTPO type with Gruss aus Neu-Guinea) & 5pf (2, from Kieta or Herbertshohe the latter uprated with 3pf x2 with Vladivostok arrival cds on the face). (Qty 18)

c.1914 defaced '____/["eagle"]/Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen' mailbag seal (Powell #21; rated F) largely fine strike tying an invalid German New Guinea 10pf to piece; & another single with oval Rabaul datestamp. Ex "Ello". (Qty 2)
GERMAN POST OFFICE: Registered philatelic covers comprising 1900 with Overprints set tied by 'APIA/KAISERDEUTSCHE/POSTAGENTUR' cds (no evidence of transit); 1907 with light 'MULIFANUA' cds & red/black registration label; and two 1909 covers - one Ex Guy Hamilton - with ridiculous Samoa/Niue combination frankings, Apia labels & 'Paquebot' h/s (Hosking #1638; rated D); a few blemishes.
