C/D

1917 cover to a soldier serving abroad with 3d Roo + KGV 1d red tied by poor 'MONTAGUE/VIC' cds, rare red registration label, redirected many times within France & England with no less than six re-direction labels affixed to the face. Eventually the much-travelled & soiled envelope fell apart & the two halves were affixed to the front & reverse of an Australian Base PO "ambulance" cover which was endorsed "Re-enclosed at ABPO/London contents correspon/dence only". The OHMS envelope is quite dessicated requiring extensive repairs. Despite faults, this is a remarkably visual item that demonstrates the lengths to which the Army went to attempt delivery.

AEROGRAMMES - OFFICIAL: 1952 'ON HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE' with 'POSTAGE/PAID' at upper-right ASC #OA4, to New Zealand with Melbourne machine cancel of 18SEP/1953. Rare. [The ASC gives 18/9/1953 as the issue date for the 'Postage/Paid' issue #OA3. We expect this is also thus a First Day Cover, which suggests that the upper-case setting may have been just one unit on the sheet, rather than a separate issue.
