POSTAL CARDS: 1908 1d blue for the Visit of the American Great White Fleet HG 35, to South Australia with Sydney machine cancel of SP17-1908, readdressed on arrival, minor blemishes. By far the rarest of all the Fleet Cards, and only the second used example we have offered in 30 years: it makes the more popular Tasmanian issue look positively prosaic! [The message states "...This is an ugly card but it is a special stamp just issued for the Fleet week...The ships were lit up every night & we could see 10 of them from the verandah"]

PS

POSTAL CARDS: 1898 First Scenic Issue 1d purple-brown HG 10 x34 different views a few on the scarce yellowish stock, three are poor, the others are fine to very fine & a few are superb, mostly unused but 11 - a few with printed advices on the reverse - are used. A very difficult group to assemble especially in fine or better condition as the card stock used for the scenic issues was of poor quality, and is is often badly aged, dessicated and/or stained. (Qty 34)
