German annotated display of POW mail from camps in Australia to Germany (8, with various postcards - one with printed 6d indicium - or lettersheets) or Italy, another used internally, & a beautiful Italian Red Cross POW postcard to an Italian POW in Australia, condition a bit mixed. Also includes four Deutsches Rotes Kreus/Präsidium letters enquiring about the whereabouts of German servicemen. An interesting lot. (Qty 11)

1942 commercial airmail cover to Sydney with 3d brown x2 & straight-line 'HMAS MELVILLE' cancel, a second very fine strike on the provisional registration label plus two more across the flap where also endorsed by the sender "EC JOHNSON/HMAS PLATYPUS", 'ARMY POST OFFICE/3JY44/065' (used at Darwin) transit & Sydney arrival b/s, tombstone naval censor h/s in violet. Use of ships' names was highly irregular & contrary to military postal regulations. ["Platypus" was in Darwin Harbour when the Japanese bombed Darwin on 19/2/1942. She remained in Darwin as a training ship & later as a base ship. HMAS "Melville" was the naval shore station at Darwin]

1945 OAS airmail cover unusually to the United States with Ceylon 20c pair tied by 'RAFPOST 301' cds, endorsed on the flap "From 3011253 LAC Fulsher D/RAF Cocos Islands". A rare cover: Kim Dwyer stated that only three covers from RAF PO 301 with Ceylon stamps were recorded. Her example sold for $4140 at our auction of 24/6/2006. Our vendor has requested a modest estimate because the RAFPO number - while undoubted - is indistinct]

Full of character, : "No information is available" but he identifies mail from China, Ceylon & Aden proving the label should have been inscribed "Karachi-Cairo".
