1939 Indian Ocean Survey Flight per Flying Boat "Guba" carried on the return leg from Hollandia (11.5.39) to Sydney then from Australia through to the United States with stamps of Australia, Seychelles, KUT, Belgian Congo & USA all appropriately cancelled, very fine strike of the 'C.&W.LTD/12JUN39/COCOS' cds on the reverse alongside an itinerary of the outward & return flights & signed "Richard Archbold", the leader of the expedition. Rare. [Archbold was an American adventurer who owned the "Guba". It was chartered by the Australian government for the Indian Ocean flight & Archbold went along as a crew member. Kim Dwyer's similarly franked oversize cover - without the Hollandia cds or the itinerary & signature on the reverse - sold for $2300 at our auction of 24/6/2006]

1951 (June) Qantas return flight Cocos-Australia AAMC #1273c (through to United States) with Crocodile 2/- cancelled on arrival at Sydney, superb strike of the double-circle 'C.& W.LTD/11JUN51/ COCOS' cds ties type-written 'PER QANTAS/CATALINA/VH-EBA' label to the reverse, makeshift rouletted airmail label 'R COCOS/0019' on the face. [20 covers were prepared by ER Leigh-Parkin, who also created the labels & "lightning flash" cachet on the face & applied his personal seal to wax on the flap.
