1943 Red Cross POW Envelope with solid bar at the base, to an Australian soldier in Java, Japanese Red Cross h/s & "chop" both in magenta, a few characteristic blemishes. Very scarce POW destination. [POW mails were exchanged with the neutral Portuguese at Mozambique!!]
1945 stampless commercial cover to Melbourne endorsed "NSA/Timor" (= "No Stamps Available") with 'AIR FORCE PO/23OC45/ 21 ' cds. Rare: Proud records no allocations of this datestamp.
1939 Indian Ocean Survey Flight per Flying Boat "Guba" carried on the return leg from Hollandia (11.5.39) to Sydney then from Australia through to the United States with stamps of Australia, Seychelles, KUT, Belgian Congo & USA all appropriately cancelled, very fine strike of the 'C.&W.LTD/12JUN39/COCOS' cds on the reverse alongside an itinerary of the outward & return flights & signed "Richard Archbold", the leader of the expedition. Rare. [Archbold was an American adventurer who owned the "Guba". It was chartered by the Australian government for the Indian Ocean flight & Archbold went along as a crew member. Kim Dwyer's similarly franked oversize cover - without the Hollandia cds or the itinerary & signature on the reverse - sold for $2300 at our auction of 24/6/2006]
