1856 two envelopes to Sydney with Imperf Diadem 1d pair (full margins except where cut-into at right) or 2d (3 margins) cancelled with fine BN '63' of 'EAST MAITLAND' (oval b/s) or '37' of 'RAYMOND TERRACE' (large cds b/s), minor blemishes. [The addressee William Charles Windeyer was a prominent politician & Supreme Court judge] (Qty 2)

1870 & 1873 Dodgson covers to Putney 1) "Via Marseilles" with 2d pair & 6d, Rays '40' (Manning rated RR) of 'DALRYMPLE' (b/s); & 2) "Via Brindisi" with 3d & 6d tied by light Rays of Rockhampton; minor defects. An attractive pair. (Qty 2)
1855 1d green SG 1 almost full margins with Diamond Numeral '1' & part London cds in red & 2d rose-carmine SG 2 horizontal pair, margins close to huge with a fragment of the adjoining unit at right &Diamond Numeral '25'; Red 'G.P.' on Rouletted 1/- brown (Rated RR); & Black 'P.S.' on Perf 11½x10 4d dull violet (Rated RRRRR) with trimmed perfs at top & GPO cds of AU13/74. (Qty 5)
1856-58 Adelaide Printings 2d blood-red SG 8, an unusually large example with margins good to very large, light '61' cancel of Gambierton, Cat £60+. Superb! [This is a very unusual stamp. The impression is quite blotchy, possibly a Dry Ink variety. However, the resulting white "halo" behind the head is suggestive of a major Double Print]
1853-54 Couriers Second State of the Die 4d red-orange SG 7, good even margins, minor corner-crease at lower-left, BN '59' cancel, guarantee h/s, Cat £450.
TASMANIA - Postmarks
Barred Numerals: First Allocation '48' fine strike in red! on 1855 Large Star 1d carmine SG 14 (3 margins, a little cut-into at top, Cat £800). A rarity. [Probably used at Cascades PO 1/10/1854; closed 30/6/1856. Later used at Hobart: see Handbook Vol II at pages 16-17 at at p23: "A red cancel is known on a 1d Star"]

1863-74 Wmk Single-Lined Numerals 1d green SG 108 marginal example from the top of the sheet [C2] - Double Perfs at Top - & another from base of the upper pane [F13], also interpanneau strip of 4 [A7-9 - B7] on 1864 outer from Marong with BN '282', all from the first printing and thus without the marginal lines that were added to later printings. (Qty 3 items)
1863-74 Wmk Single-Lined Numerals 2d Second Forme Setting complete reconstruction of the 120 positions with an attractive range of shades from the 1866-67 printings & a few Barred Numerals, beautifully presented on exhibition pages. Ex Holness. (Qty 120)

63: Type 3 '63' (11mm numerals) of Murchison very fine strike on Bell 2d. Rated RRRR.
98: Type 1 '98' (9mm numerals) of Malmesbury very fine strike on Emblems Imperf 4d (3½ margins). Rated RRRR. [Goldmining NB: while this could be Type 1 '86' of Charlton, that marking is rated RRRRR]
177: Type 1 '177' (recut; no sidebars) of Omeo fine strike on Emblems Imperf 2d (3 margins). Rated RRR. [Goldmining]
217: Type 1 '217' (with sidebars) of Strathloddon large-part strike on Redrawn 6d, only the top of the '7' is evident but it has been confirmed by Hugh Freeman. Rated RRRRR.
253: Type 1 '253' (with sidebars) of Framlingham large-part strike on Emblems 4d, the '5' is obvious & the '3' is unmistakable. Rated RRRRR. Ex Hugh Freeman.
