Attractively annotated collection on leaves with Blank Tablet sets mint & used plus set to 8d with vertical 'SPECIMEN' opt; Filled Tablet used to 5/- (2, one Perf 11), Perf 12x11 2d block of 12 unmounted, 'SPECIMEN' set of 14 (no gum), 6 values to 1/- with WA rings cancels, 1907 Victoria Paper mint set; Victorian Design 1909-10 mint set to 10/- & used set to £1 plus ½d 'CA' & 'JBC' Monogram blocks of 8 (no side-margins), CofA Perf 11 mint set, strong group of post-WWII issues including 1938-46 4d with Misplaced Vignette (**), etc; numerous multiples including used group to 5/- plus a useful range of imprint pairs & blocks, a good range of varieties including in positional blocks; condition of the earlier material a little variable but generally fine to very fine throughout. 1902 Blank Tablet ½d to 8d blocks of 4, CTO with central 'HOBART/6FE/1908/TASMANIA' cds, no gum, Cat $960++ as used singles. Not listed CTO in the ACSC. Ex David Watson (UK). [The catalogue does mention WA concentric-rings specimen cancels on a few values only] (Qty 7 blocks)
1908 High Values with Stroke Perf 11 2/- emerald BW #D73, excellent centring, faint gum-bend, lightly mounted, Cat $1500 (1999). An unusually fresh example of this scarce stamp. [Acquired for $1552 at our auction of 28/1/2005]
1913-21 Thin Paper £1 scarlet & pale green BW #D104 (SG D87), well centred, faint bend, Cat $1350 (£800).
1931-37 CofA Perf 11 3d carmine & yellow-green Ash Imprint ('N' over 'EA') block of 4 with 'R-A' Join BW #D118za, exceptional centring, unmounted, Cat $1400. A gem! [Far superior to Sir Gawaine Baillie's block - off-centre & rough perforations - that sold for $1840 in July 2005]
1938 Intaglio 4d carmine & yellow-green Misplaced Vignette BW #D126c, unmounted, Cat $250.
1946-56 Redrawn Value Plates 1d carmine & yellow-green Authority Imprint block of 8 from the base of the sheet with complete Plate Number '-1-', a couple of hinge remainders at the upper corners but the central block of 4 is unmounted, Cat $400 mounted (1999). Ex David Watson (UK).

POSTAGE DUE: commercial airmail cover from 'SHERWOOD' (Qld) to Melbourne, good strike of the rare boxed 'EXCEEDS ("ONE") OZS/TAX___' h/s overstruck with superb 'T10D' h/s, CofA Perf 11 4d & 6d Postage Dues affixed & cancelled with a pencil-stroke, a trifle soiled. [The 6d BW #D120 (SG D110) is rare on cover: Cat $2000]

BURRUNDIE: squared-circle 'BURRUNDIE/19/OC10/02/S_A' very fine strike tying CofA Postage Due 1d to face of Macao 1a on 2a Postal Card (+ 2a on reverse) commercially used with 'T'-in-circle h/s & Chinese 'CUSTOMS/LAPPA' cds at lower-left, Hong Kong & Port Darwin transit b/s, reinforced fold & minor blemishes. An exceptional origin-destination item.
TASMANIA - Postal History
1901 two underpaid commercial covers 1) from Victoria with Pictorial 2d in lieu of Postage Due tied by Scottsdale cds; & 2) from NSW officially registered with Stamp Duty 6d Platypus in lieu of Postage Due cancelled in pencil. Scarce duo. (Qty 2)
POSTAGE DUES: Display pages with Blue & Clarets two mint sets some with Watermark Inverted plus to 2/- with 'Specimen' h/s, 1895-96 mint & used sets, 1900-04 1/- to 5/- mint, etc, a few multiples & a few are CTO, condition a bit variable but generally fine to very fine. (Qty 130+)
POSTAGE DUES: 1890-94 Blue & Claret set in mixed condition, mostly unused, the 5/- with large-part but disturbed o.g., Cat £425; also 1894 philatelic usage of ½d Wrapper with 'T1D'-in-oval & boxed 'REFUSED/ON ACCOUNT/OF TAX' h/s, Postage Due 1d tied by boxed 'LC2' d/s. [We have seen several similar wrappers, all with the Postage Due removed & sometimes replaced. This is the only "complete" example noted] (Qty 12 + wrapper)

1900-07 comprising 1) cover to Cape Colony with Tablets 6c & small black/cream 'OPENED UNDER MARTIAL LAW' label; 2) Indian ½a Envelope to Colombo with the stamp cancelled on arrival; 3) usage of Ceylon PPC to GB with Ceylon 6c & India 1a tied by Rangoon cds; & 4) underpaid PPC to Bombay with tiny 'BOMBAY/UNPAID' d/s in green.
