TASMANIA - Postal History
1824 (Dec 24) entire to Macquarie River with a fair - but still better-than-average - strike of the undated oval 'HOBART TOWN/VDL' handstamp, minor blemishes. [Very scarce NSW Period cover]
1836 entire headed "Hobart Town May 4th 1835" & signed "Chas Price", to London rated "4" in red for outgoing shipletter, boxed 'INDIA LETTER/DOVER' b/s in red & rated "1/-" for an incoming packetletter, 'G.P.' h/s of London in red, minor blemishes. From the period of no handstamps. [Charles Price was a prominent Congregational minister & temperance advocate. Price reached Launceston (for the second time) on 29/4/1836 so this letter is from immediately after his arrival. He speaks of asking "the Governor for a piece of ground for a Chapel...I shall leave no stone unturned to get a Chapel as soon as possible"]
1862 town letter with Imperf 1d pale red-brown SG 26 (margins just shaved to large) tied by dumb cancel of Hobart, good strike of the rare boxed 'PRE-PAID/4 O-CLOCK/21FE21/1862' datestamp in red alongside, minor soiling.
