1915 stampless cover to the Red Cross in Geneva endorsed on the flap "abs Willy Baumeister Prisoner of War/Langwarrin Camp/Australia - Victoria" with Melbourne cds, 'CENSORS OFFICE/GPO/ MELBOURNE' h/s & 'PASSED' h/s all on the face, 'GENEVE' arrival b/s. [Emery at p282 states "...was principally a supply base but housed some POWs". The camp closed in 1915]

German annotated display of POW mail from camps in Australia to Germany (8, with various postcards - one with printed 6d indicium - or lettersheets) or Italy, another used internally, & a beautiful Italian Red Cross POW postcard to an Italian POW in Australia, condition a bit mixed. Also includes four Deutsches Rotes Kreus/Präsidium letters enquiring about the whereabouts of German servicemen. An interesting lot. (Qty 11)

1943 Red Cross POW Envelope with solid bar at the base, to an Australian soldier in Java, Japanese Red Cross h/s & "chop" both in magenta, a few characteristic blemishes. Very scarce POW destination. [POW mails were exchanged with the neutral Portuguese at Mozambique!!]
1945 (June) stampless Italian Red Cross POW postcard between Italian POWs in Italy & Australia, 'GENOVA FERROVIA' cds & oddly with 'PW MIDDLE/EAST 116' transit h/s in violet, 'POW CAMP/MYRTLEFORD, VIC.' h/s applied on arrival in Australia & Australian Censor h/s.
NORTH-WEST PACIFIC ISLANDS PERIOD: 1917 soldier's cover to Victoria with 1d red tied by 'MANUS' cds, Red Cross Queensland imprint at lower-left, very fine '[crown]/PASSED CENSOR/20APR1917/RABAUL' d/s in violet, minor defects. Acquired for $1485 at Macray Watson sale of 11/8/1998. [With the enclosure being three pages of letterhead with 'YMCA/with the/AUSTRALIAN EXPEDITIONARY/FORCES' banner in red & the letter headed "Chief Petty Officer Tucker/Aust Naval Expdty Force/Manus/via Rabaul": "...we are out of civilisation...Bob Whitlaw...has joined the Flying Corps..."]
