AUSTRALIA - TASMANIA: 1832-34 issues of the Hobart Town broadsheet "The Colonist" from Vol 1 No 6 (10/8/1832) to Vol 3 No 92 (8/4/1834) bound together but removed from the original volume, some faults but internally generally respectable. A wealth of social and mercantile content: researchers wanted.
AUSTRALIA - TASMANIA: 1849 Convict Pardon on vellum (316x193mm) for William Sweeney - sentenced in 1840 at Limerick (Ireland) to 10 years transportation - conditional upon him not returning to the United Kingdom until the original sentence expired, signed by the Lieutenant-Governor "WDenison" & with a largely fine impression of the Colonial Seal affixed & wafered at lower-left, unusually without the convict's details completed on the reverse, vertical folds otherwise remarkably fine.
AUSTRALIA - TASMANIA: c.1850 police pass with printed 'Police Office [arms] ____' with space for the office name stating 'The bearer _______ a Prisoner, holding a Ticket-of-Leave, has Permission to pass this Day...', pro forma for the bearer's identification details printed on the reverse, complete with the counterfoil and remarkably fine unused. [A similar used item of 1839 sold for $1437 at our auction of 5/12/2009]
AUSTRALIA: Selection of better cards with Tasmanian views by Hood & Co (4, unused), Paddlesteamers on the Murray used, 1932 Kingsford Smith flying over the unfinished Sydney Harbour Bridge (a bit soiled, unused), & 1919 real photo of Ross & Keith Smith's Vicker's "Vimy" under maintenance at Darwin (unused); also Swedish Judaica "Emigranter Till det Nya Jerusalem" card (unused) & New Zealand Tanner Bros Wreck of SS "Devon" (minor blemishes, used). Tasmania scraps including nine 4d Couriers ranging from poor to awful & one is a forgery!, plus Chalons in very mixed condition, 'NEWS-PAPER-DUTY/TWO PENCE' in red (2 cutouts), unused PTPO Envelopes (2) & Wrappers ½d 1d & 2d all with Red Borders; also Victoria unused oddments including Laureates 3d orange 4d 6d & 8d brown/pink and Bell 1d & 1/-. 1853-71 Classics collection in boxed Lindner album including Couriers 1d (2, repaired) & 4d (two repaired singles, and oxidised pair & a forgery), Star 2d (close margins) & 4d (6, including two pairs), No Watermark 1d (2), 2d & 4d (2), Numerals range with a huge 6d (sadly cleaned) & a few multiples including 1d strip of 4 & 6d pair, Private Separations group, & a few reprints, lots of problems including repairs, cleaned & oxidised stamps but many others are fine to very fine so careful examination is required. (Qty 140 approx)
1853-54 Couriers Second State of the Die 4d red-orange SG 7, good even margins, minor corner-crease at lower-left, BN '59' cancel, guarantee h/s, Cat £450.
1853-54 Couriers Die II 4d dull orange SG 11, large margins & with a significant portion of the printer's imprint at the base, Cat £350+. Rare specialist item.
1855 Large Star 2d deep green SG 15, margins just clear to large, manuscript cross-hatching postal cancellation, Cat £500. Ex David Cohen. RPSofV Certificate (2009) states "the pen cancel is in accordance with the instructions to postmasters".

1856-57 No Watermark Thin White Paper 1d pale brick-red SG 19 horizontal strip of 3, margins just clear to large except at the base where the first two units are slightly cut-into, Cat £1800++. A rare multiple. [Our vendor advises that the only larger multiple is a strip of 4 - Ex Earl - that has not been on the market since 1980. He records three strips of 3, of which "this is the second finest", & notes that a strip of 3 sold for $5500 in 2005]
1856-57 No Watermark 2d dull emerald-green SG 20, an unusually large example with margins good to large, ironed-out horizontal crease at top, neat numeral cancellation, Cat £900. Superb appearance.
