KING EDWARD VII

4

C

A-

1904 (April 29) cover in the hand of King Edward VII to his daughter "Her Royal Highness/Princess Charles of Denmark/Copenhagen/Denmark" with KEVII 2d tied by 'DUBLIN/=20=' cds, fine impression of the King's signet ring in wax on the flap, Copenhagen arrival backstamp, opened-out for display. [Edward & Alexandra's fifth child & youngest daughter, Princess Maud of Wales, was married to her first-cousin Prince Charles of Denmark in 1896. In 1905, Norway offered the monarchy to Charles. He was crowned King Haakon VII, and his wife Queen Maud. Queen Maud Land in Antarctica is named after her. Note: one of Edward's several titles was Earl of Dublin, which lapsed when he became King. With Royal Archives letter to John Williams confirming that Edward made an official visit to Ireland from 26/4/1904 until 5/5/1904]

VICTORIA LAND: Collector\'s cover with \'BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1907\' imprint in blue and rare albeit philatelic franking of 1) KEVII Land 1d tied by Expedition cds of FE27/08 in green with another strike alongside in black, 2) Victoria Land d pair - a very scarce multiple - with cds of FE4/13 & 3) 1d with cds of 3MR/12; & 4) 1d with No Stop After \'LAND \' with cds of 9FE/11 also tying British Charles Dickens \'A TRIBUTE TO GENIUS\' label; the stamps Cat 2400+. An attractive souvenir of the Expedition. [We doubt if the Dickens label was issued as early as February 1911. If that is the case, the cds was back-dated to cancel at least the No Stop stamp] [** Our supposition that the Dickens label had not been issued by early-1911 is incorrect. In fact, it was released in November 1910 by "Strand" magazine in London. This fact should enhance the desirability of this unusual cover **]
