NEW GUINEA: 1744 "A Map of the Discoveries made by Captn Willm Dampier in the/Roebuck in 1699" (350x230mm) comprising Timor, the Moluccas, the far west of New Guinea inscribed 'TERRA DE PAPOS', the northern coast of New Guinea, a badly distorted "Nova Britannia", a little aged but most attractive, mounted & attractively framed. [Text at the base of the map states "...This discovery of Captain Dampier that the country he named New Britain was an island is of very great importance..."]

1897 Overprints on Germany with shades comprising 3pf x4 including bright brown-ochre with gutter margin **, 5pf, 10pf vertical pair with sheet value margin (Steuer guarantee h/s, **), 20pf x2 one from the upper-right corner of the lower pane with Shaved 'c' in 'Deutsch' Mi 3 XII [Pos 60], 25pf x2 ** (one signed) and 50pf, between Mi 1-6, a few with hinge remainders, Cat €800+. 1901 stampless cover to Germany with fine strike of 'KAIS-DEUTSCHE/MARINE-/SCHIFFSPOST/No 7/9 10/01' cds, 'Kommando/SMS Möwe' cachet at upper-left & the ship's "Arms" cachet on the reverse, 'KIEL' arrival b/s, ironed-out vertical fold & repaired lower-right corner. Ex Jürgen Kessing.
1902 commercial printed matter cover to the local administration office at Saipan with 3pf tied by 'HERBERTSHOHE' cds, Sydney transit b/s & 'SAIPAN/MARIANEN' arrival cds on the face. [The rate within the German Community was 3pf per 50g, so the item weighed no more than 50g]
1903 usage of Gerstenberg PPC to Germany with 5pf tied by one of two strikes of 'KAIS.DEUTSCHE/MARINE-/ SCHIFFSPOST/No 7' cds used aboard SMS "Möwe".
1904 usage of Lagerverwaltung PPC ("Ins Wasser gebautes Papuadorf" = Papuan floating village) to NSW with rounded-boxed 'PAQUEBOT' h/s at lower-left & 10pf tied by 'SYDNEY' cds, poor 'WAVERLEY' arrival cds, minor bend. Lovely card.

1906 5pf Postal Card to Matupi with very fine 'HERBERTSHOHE' cancel & 'SIMPSONHAFEN' arrival b/s, message headed "Paratava" ironed-out vertical fold. Scarce internal mail. [From Rudolf Wolff, owner of Paratava Plantation near Toma. His wife & children were killed by natives in 1902]
1908 PPC with 'Dr O Reche/Südsee-Exped.../Dpfr Peiho/Post: Simpsonhafen/DEUTSCH-NEUGUINEA' cachet in violet, the message headed "Simpsonhafen 1 Aug 1908" & signed "Otto Reche", to Berlin with 5pf tied by light 'SIMPSONHAFEN' cds, heavy central fold that has been reinforced on the view-side. Acquired some years ago for €800.
