1920 (c.) parcel piece with scarce franking of KGV 4d orange & Kangaroos Third Wmk 1/- x5 (including a vertical strip of 3) all perf 'OS' - paying the rate for a parcel weighing between 10 & 11 pounds (the maximum allowed weight) - tied by a large-part strike of the enormous 'CHIEF PARCEL OFFICE/MELBOURNE' undated rubber cancel (no serifs). Ex Mac Clarke.

1913 "Darrah Overprints" 'S'HAI./CHINA' Type I Handstamp on Parcel Post 1c 2c 4c 5c 10c 15c & 25c, the 1c & 4c with one straight edge, each with undated oval 'US POSTAL AGENCY/R.D./SHANGHAI CHINA' Registration Division handstamp, a few blemishes. Ex John Wesley Thomas: acquired for $US2070. Rare. [John Darrah, the Postal Agent at Shanghai, applied a handstamp and two different overprints to various US stamps. The "Darrah Overprints" are not listed by the major catalogues, but are highly regarded by specialists as forerunners] (Qty 7)

1914 entire address panel on parcel piece (145x105mm) with typed endorsements "Sender: Lutheran Mission/ Finschhafen -D.Neuguinea" & "Korrekturbogen/Proof-sheet" and 'Drucksache' (= printed matter) h/s at upper-left, to Brisbane with rare franking of 25pf 30pf & 1mk tied by superb 'FINSCHHAFEN' cds. A marvellous & colourful item. [The foreign printed matter rate was 5pf per 50g so the packet weighed 1.550kg, as endorsed at left in blue pencil]

1914 parcel card to Germany with rare franking of 80pf single & - on the reverse - a pair tied by 'HERBERTSHOHE' cds, black/yellow-buff '573 Herbertshöhe/(Deutsch Neu-Guinea)' label, on arrival struck with Hamburg Customs "castle" cachet (on the reverse) & 'Zoll ("30") Pf' customs duty assessed plus 'Versollungs - bz Bestellgebühr 20Pf' (= 20pf carrier's fee to be paid by the addressee) h/s in violet on the reverse. Friedrich Steuer Certificate (1989).
