QUEENSLAND - Postal History
1864 cover front to France with very scarce three-colour franking of 1d vermilion (faults), 3d brown & 6d apple-green, poor cancels, two strikes of the 'POSS ANG V SUEZ/MARSEILLE' cds & 'PD' h/s both in red, the 3d tied by 'PAYS ETRANGER/MARSEILLE' cds also in red, minor soiling. Ex Hugh Campbell.
FRENCH POLYNESIA: 1851 missionary entire headed "Tahiti May 3rd 1851" & signed "WH Howe", to London "per Overland Mail via/Marseilles/Castle [?] Calcutta" with 'PAID SHIP LETTER/JU*26/1851/SYDNEY' d/s in red where rated "3" for an outgoing shipletter, London arrival b/s of 1851/17OC17 & rated "2/-" for a double-weight inwards India letter, light horizontal filing fold at the base. An extremely late English missionary letter. [In 1843, the French outraged the British when they took formal possession of Tahiti. By the end of 1846 all the British missionaries had departed. Was Howe an exception, or did he return later?]
CAROLINE ISLANDS: 1909 apparently commercial usage of PPC of "Postdampfer Germania" with message headed "Angaur 21 2 09", to Germany with Marshall Islands 5pf tied by 'DEUTSCHE SEEPOST/JALUIT-LINIE/21 2 b /09' cds.

CAROLINE ISLANDS: 1910 missionary's cover with 'Liebenzeller Mission/Truk Carolinen' imprint at upper-left and boxed 'Reichspostdampfer/Germania' ship's cachet, registered to Germany with combination franking of German 10pf and Carolines 10pf pair tied by the very scarce 'DEUTSCHE SEEPOST/JALUIT-/LINIE/22 9 b /10' cds, 'Deutsche Seepost/Jaluit-Linie' registration label, 'FRIEDRICHSHAGEN' arrival b/s, a couple of very minor blemishes. An exceptional cover.
