PERF 14 AT SOMERSET HOUSE: 1d rose (very fine with large-part o.g.), 2d blue (pulled perf at left) & 1/- (central defect) each with sans serif 'SPECIMEN' handstamp (Samuel #GB6). Very rare. The 2d & 1/- are Ex Bill McCredie, where the 1/- was noted as a proof that was not issued. It was also suggested in the McCredie catalogue that the obvious faults affecting the 2d & 1/- were inflicted "apparently officially". This statement lacks credibility & is refuted by the very fine condition of the 1d.

VERY ROUGH PERF 14-16: 1d rose-carmine SG 44, superb part-strike of the 'CANC[ELLED]' handstamp used on the Ormond Hill presentation stamps, Cat 17,000 if genuine. Offered "as is". [Only two of the six examples were recorded by Peter Jaff in "CANCELLED by Perkins Bacon", and this is not one of them. Because of the orientation of the handstamp, this stamp could not have been horizontally adjacent to either of them. However, if the two central units were single stamps then this could be one of those. That, though, would have been most irregular, and is considered to be a highly unlikely scenario. Under ultra-violet light, the handstamp is unobjectionable. However, under illuminated magnification, there are numerous flecks of blue through the black ink. This causes us to believe that the "handstamp" has, in fact, been printed onto the 1d Swan, and is thus a fake]
