1902-06 Text in Red Size G 3d bright red-brown Knife 2 but with the lower flap cut at 60 degree angle RE2, to Germany with 2d tied by 'R'-in-oval h/s, rubber oval 'REGISTERED BRANCH/30AUG02/KALGOORLIE, W.A.' d/s, Perth transit b/s of 1SEP1902 & 'MAGDEBURG' arrival b/s. Sub-type unlisted in the PSAC. A highly desirable item, being the earliest recorded usage of any WA stamped Registration Envelope. This item is symptomatic of the problems with the PSAC listing. RE1.1 - red text, brown stamp, Knife 2 - was printed only in 1906. However, on the face of it, this item is RE1.1, used four years before it was printed!! Not only has the knife not been properly identified, the PSAC's ERU for RE1 - Knife 1 - of 30/8/1902, surely refers to this item, which is definitely not RE1.

1906-12 New Fonts & 'REGISTERED.' in Box 31x8mm 3d RE9 with Text in Red-Brown & Stamp in Yellow-Brown, unused. [The PSAC identifies six printings in various shades of brown. However, the descriptors used to separate the printings don't conform to the empirical evidence of used examples. The shades are graduated and can be very difficult to separate. Because the shade is the only point of difference, we see little value in assigning separate catalogue numbers to this group]

1906-12 New Fonts & 'REGISTERED.' in Box 31x8mm 3d RE9 with Text & Stamp in Red-Brown, double-rate to East Prussia with 'BULONG/JA26/09/WA' cds & 5d tied by 'R'-in-oval h/s, Perth transit b/s, small flap fault clear of the printed stamp. [This example highlights the problems with the PSAC listing. The March 1912 printing is the only one described as "Text & Stamp in Red-Brown". However, this example, used three years earlier, is the only one in the collection that conforms to that descriptor]
