POSTMARKS: '[K]ULUMADAU/5JUL1905/[B]RITISH NEW GUINEA' (Lee #62; rated F) very fine strike on piece alongside BNG 4d - lifted & hinged back in place - tied by another light but legible strike, faint spotting. [Roger Lee recorded usage 4/11/1903 to 1/7/1905, which would make this the LRD]

POSTMARKS: POSTMARKS: 'KUMUSI/27DEC1901/BRITISH NEW GUINEA' (Lee #66; rated F) largely very fine strike on BNG d, surface abrasion. Renamed from Bogi late-1901 - so this is a very early date - closed late-1905. [Very fine examples sold for $2070 & $1150 at our auctions of 25/3/2011 & 30/4/2011] ** Leading Papua collector, Alan Grey, has pointed out the blindingly obvious, that this is a 'PAPUA' stamp, not a BNG issue. Consequently, the best we can say about the datestamp is that it appears to be genuine but has been backdated, presumably per favor, well after Kumusi actually closed. In these circumstances, and with the approval of our vendor, the estimate and reserve have been slashed to $100 & $75 respectively **

POSTMARKS: 'NIVANI/JY15/01/B.N.G' (Lee #51; rated G) very fine strike in violet on BNG 2d. PO opened late-1899; closed -/2/1902. [Lee states that only a few philatelic examples have been seen. This is apparently a commercial usage, and at least the equal of examples that sold for $2760 & $1322 at our auctions of 28/7/2009 & 14/8/2010 respectively]
