Ex Geoff Kellow & Michael Silvasich. RPSofV Certificate (2008) for the Perf 12 stamp.
1854-59 Shilling Octagonal 1859 Perf 12 by Robinson 1/- blue SG 81/a with Creased Transfer affecting Cross at Right and Major Retouch Obliterating 'IN' of 'SHILLING', minor thin, light cancel that leaves both varieties unobstructed. Ex Geoff Kellow & Michael Silvasich. RPSofV Certificate (2008).
1859 Perf 12 by Robinson Emblems 2d pale lilac SG 77, a remarkably fine example of this underrated stamp, Cat £275.
1863-81 Laureates Single-Lined Numerals Wmk 8d orange SG 112 horizontal pair, large-part (brown) o.g., Cat £1100+. A rare multiple. [Geoff Kellow at page 172 states "It is a rare stamp unused: there is a block of 4 and several pairs". We have recorded only three pairs]
1873 Surcharge '½/HALF' on Perf 12 1d green SG 175 lower-right corner block of 8 (4x2), minor tonespots, full unmounted o.g., Cat £480++.
1884 Stamp Statute £5 black & green SG 233 with small 'SPECIMEN' (KTM Type 10) twice in black & once in red which is overstruck with the much larger Type 11c h/s also in red, a couple of tiny defects, large-part o.g. Ex Bill McCredie. [Illustrated by Kellow Turner & McCredie at page 31, and noted as only two other examples recorded] It must be stressed that the only way to obtain an unused or "mint" example of this stamp is with a Specimen handstamp, as here. Most examples are 1891 reprints overprinted 'REPRINT'. By way of comparison, we note that the famous £5 orange of Great Britain - a relatively common and readily available stamp - is catalogued at £14,000 mint.
1899-1901 Wmk '85' 1d rosine with the Watermark Sideways SG 357b, large-part o.g. with a hinge-remainder. Unpriced mint or used. RPSofV Certificate (2010). [Only one other mint example has been recorded]
1899-1901 Wmk '85' 2d violet with the Watermark Sideways SG 359a, some creasing, large-part o.g. Unpriced by Gibbons.
1901-10 V/Crown £2 deep blue BW #V132 (SG 432), a couple of small thins & damaged perf at upper-right, 'GAFFNEYS CREEK/VICTORIA' cds & 'R'-in-circle cancel, undercatalogued at $500 (£400). Rare commercially used. [Virtually all used examples are CTO, Cat $400. For every 100 CTO examples there might be one commercially used stamp, usually from the gold mining areas of Omeo or Gaffneys Creek]
POSTAGE DUES: 1905-09 Crown/A ½d scarlet & pale yellow-green, the right-hand unit Perf 11 at right resulting in Perf 12x11x12x12½ SG D34ba, a trifle soiled, large-part o.g., undercatalogued at £600. [Geoff Kellow at page 322 states "The only major perforation variety of all the postage dues...Perhaps 20 examples both mint & used are known...There are two forms i) a simple compound, with Perf 11 at right [as here] and ii) mixed perfs with Perf 11 added at right to correct an off-centre [sic] line of perfs". We expect that his figure of 20 includes both mint & used examples of both variants. Our vendor states he knows of only two other mint examples of this stamp in private hands. A very fine but poorly centred used example sold for $1955 at our auction of 17/8/2012]
ECHUCA RAILWAY STAMPS: 6d blue large-part sheetlet of 5 with the upper-right unit removed, the fourth unit thinned, light overall soiling, large-part o.g. Ex "Brussels Find".
MURRAY RIVER STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY: 1d red block of 6 (2x3) with margins except at the base, some minor toning/aging, some minor perf separation/reinforcing, large-part o.g. Ex "Brussels Find". [A fine rejoined sheetlet of 10 sold for $5520 at our auction of 7/5/2013]
MURRAY RIVER STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY: 1d red block of 6 with Double Perfs Vertically & Triple Perfs Horizontally, full unmounted o.g. A spectacular error. Ex "Brussels Find". [The similar block of 6 in our auction of 7/5/2013 sold for $1495]
