C of A KANGAROOS - 1st Watermark
9(2)za 2½d light bluish-indigo 'JBC' Monogram single BW #9(2)za, lightly mounted, Cat $1750.
30(2)z 1/- emerald 'CA' Monogram strip of 3 BW #30(2)z guillotined through the monogram, the gum a trifle aged, the last unit with a hinge remainder, the other units are unmounted, Cat $12,000. [Hugh Morgan's similar hinged strip - one unit creased & the monogram similarly trimmed - sold on 13/11/2012 for £6600]
No longer available
42za 5/- grey & chrome 'CA' Monogram single BW #42za with a huge sheet margin, very fresh but with a few short perfs, faint vertical bend & hinge remainders, Cat $35,000+. Mint 'CA' Monograms are extremely rare: the ACSC records only one mint single. However, that stamp sold at the Hugh Morgan auction on 13/11/2012 for £15,600.
47z 10/- grey & pink 'CA' Monogram single BW #47z, the monogram slightly trimmed at the base (as usual), unmounted, Cat $75,000+ (mounted). [The ACSC states that only three mint examples are recorded, of which this must surely be the finest]
47z 10/- grey & pink 'CA' Monogram single with 'Specimen' Handstamp BW #47xz, the monogram slightly trimmed at the base (as usual) & the corners in the margin clipped, a couple of short perfs & with very little gum. [The ACSC records a 'Specimen' block of 6 with 'CA' monogram, but no singles. Hugh Morgan's fine Specimen single with 'JBC' Monogram sold on 13/11/2012 for £16,800]
51z £1 brown & blue 'CA' Monogram single BW #51zb, the monogram slightly trimmed at the base (as usual), Cat $90,000. A great rarity of Commonwealth philately. Ex Arthur Gray: acquired 22/2/2007 for $US63,250 ($A87,800+ at the time). [The ACSC states that only five mint singles - one in the Australia Post Archives - and no strip of 3, have been recorded]
51zb £1 brown & blue 'JBC' Monogram single BW #51zb, the monogram slightly trimmed at the base (as usual), Cat $90,000. A great rarity of Commonwealth philately. Ex Arthur Gray: acquired 22/2/2007 for $US57,500 ($A79,800+ at the time). [The ACSC states that only two mint singles - & a strip of 3 in the Royal Collection - have been recorded]
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire both One Pound monograms at the same time.
C of A KANGAROOS - 1st Watermark (Official Stamps)
- 9d violet 'JBC' Monogram single BW #24ba(2)zc, unmounted, Cat $7500+ (mounted). A very rare stamp, absent from all the major collections we checked.
- 1/- pale blue-green 'JBC' Monogram strip of 3 BW #30(2)zb guillotined well clear of the monogram, well centred, lightly mounted, Cat $12,000+. Extremely rare & desirable: only one other strip has been recorded.
- 2d very deep grey 'CA' Monogram single BW #5(2)za, unusually well centred, a couple of split perfs so neatly reinforced, Cat $1000+
- 6d ultramarine 'CA' Monogram pair BW #17(2)za, lightly mounted, Cat $4500 (as a monogram single).
C of A KANGAROOS - 2nd Watermark
31(1)za 1/- bright blue-green 'CA' Monogram single BW #31(1)za, a most attractive shade, a couple of short perfs at left, lightly mounted, Cat $9000.
36(2)zc 2/- brown 'JBC' Monogram single BW #36(2)zc, thinned at the base of the monogram which fortunately does not detract from the very fine facial appearance, Cat $27,500. [The ACSC states that only three mint singles - one in the Australia Post Archives - and a strip of 3 - in the Royal Collection - have been recorded]
43 5/- deep grey & chrome-yellow 'JBC' Monogram pair BW #43Bzc, very lightly mounted, Cat $35,000 (for a single).
The ACSC states that ten examples are recorded: a strip of 3, a block of 4 in the Royal Collection, four pairs (one in the Royal Collection), and four singles (one is used). More attractive than Hugh Morgan's similarly centred pair - with fluffy perfs and a hinge remainder - that sold in November 2012 for £11,000 (= $A18,000 at the time).
C of A KANGAROOS - 3rd Watermark
Selection with 3d olive-green with the Watermark Inverted (VLMtd), 6d brown Broken Leg in marginal pair (**), 1/- with the Watermark Sideways x2 (one regummed, the other unmounted), 2/- brown with fluffy perfs, 2/- maroon with fluffy perfs (creased) & £1 grey with Type D 'SPECIMEN' Overprint (unmounted but aged gum); and SMult Wmk 6d imprint pair (unmounted); wayward centring, Cat $2000+.
26(1)zc 9d violet 'JBC' Monogram single BW #26(1)zc, well centred, very lightly mounted, Cat $3000.
33(3)z 1/- Die IIB Harrison, Mullett with the Watermark Sideways (a couple of minor blemishes) & Ash with Jumped Perfs at Base imprint pairs BW #33(4)za, #33a(3)ze or (4)ze and #33(3)ze, Cat $1800 approximately.
33(3)zd 1/- dull blue-green Die IIB Plate 4 Mullett Imprint block of 4 BW #33(3)zd, unusually well centred, Cat $1750.
