C of A - Other Pre-Decimals
1948 Baron Ferdinand von Mueller 2½d stamp-size photographic reductions of three alternative designs, a couple of very minor blemishes. Ex "Whiskers".
1949 Henry Lawson original pencil sketch on paper (folded to 170x129mm for display) by the distinguished artist Sir Lionel Lindsay with his notes to guide the engraver "This is an accident...this is the line of the hair...important shape...This is is missing..." and, significantly, "Eyebrows are a little tame they and the moustache are important accents like the blacks in the hair" BW #275E(2), Cat $1000. Ex ERM Jones (the engraver) and "Whiskers". A remarkable artefact. [This is almost certainly the item listed in the ACSC but noted there as being on "tracing paper"]
1949 Henry Lawson 2½d stamp-size photographic reductions of two alternative & unadopted designs. Ex "Whiskers".
C of A - Decimal Issues
1982 Whales 60c Humpback Whale with Solid Blue Background BW #930E(1) lower-right corner block of 4, unmounted, Cat $1400+. With a normal block of 4 for comparison. [The ACSC characterises this stamp as an "essay". However, several sheets were sold by the Post Office & postally used examples - including at least one cover - have been recorded]
1863 De La Rue Essay for a 1d White (!) Swan design imperforate plate proof in ultramarine on thin ungummed unwatermarked paper, reduced to stamp-size with close but complete margins. A lovely item. Ex Michael Brachi and Lord Vestey. [Presumably this design was rejected because the Colony had only black swans. Only four examples - in different colours - have been recorded]
