1913 cover to Austria with 1d Roo only tied by Hobart machine cancel of 17FEB13, 'T ("2d")'-in-oval h/s converted to "80" (heller) on arrival with Postage Dues 20h strip of 4 tied by Vienna cds, damaged in transit & resealed with three 'K K POST-u TELEGRAPHENAMT/Wien 1 Abt 6' pneumatic post labels, opened-out for display. Full of character.

1919 (Sep 4) Hobart-Launceston AAMC #23 cover with Peace Loan advertising, carried by pilot ED Cummings in a Sopwith Pup, two-line cachet 'FIRST TAS. AERO MAIL/DPMG' h/s and 'LAUNCESTON/5SE19' arrival backstamp, a couple of repaired opening tears. Cat $4000. Ex John Cress. [Only 6 examples believed to survive]

Untidy collection but lots of little gems including NSW Imperf 'REGISTERED' with superb BN '81' of Warwick (Moreton Bay District), 20/- Governors, Charity duo, 'OS' to 5/- Coin & 5/- Map; Queensland 'REGISTERED' SG 20 mint pair, 6d SG 69 unused & Crown/Q 6d SG 92 superb used block of 4; South Australia 2d with superb Diamond Numeral '158' (rated RR); Tasmania Tablets mint to 5/- & DLR Pictorials and Crown/A 6d used strip of 3; Victoria earlies & 1/6d blue; Western Australia earlies & later to 10/-, etc, condition variable but many are fine to very fine.

Miscellany with a very fine 1835 entire from Hobart Town with no Tasmanian markings but superb British '1' handstamp, a fine 4d Courier with full margins, Star Wmk 4d x5 in mixed condition (one on cover of 12SP1/1855, stated to be the earliest recorded usage), Sideface 3d corner example with Plate Scratch on 1900 philatelic cover, Tablets 2½d unmounted pane of 60 (some perf splitting), Pictorials 1d Imperf single used, Reprints of Chalon 6d & 1/- blocks of 8 and Sideface 4d blue Plate Number '3' block of 4 all without overprint and 'Halfpenny' on 1d Plate Number '1' block of 30 (6x5) with overprint, very fine unused second issue Letter Cards "RIVER DERWENT" x2 & "LAUNCESTON", etc. A very handy lot.
1856-57 No Watermark Pelure Paper 1d deep red-brown SG 24 horizontal pair, margins just touched - at right - to good, BN '68' cancel, Cat £1500++. A very rare & desirable multiple of this scarce stamp; the left-hand unit is superb!
1857-69 Numeral Watermarks 1d pale red-brown SG 26 horizontal strip of 6, margins largely complete but slightly cut-into in a couple of places, six good to very fine strikes of BN '91' of Torquay, Cat £210+. A very scarce & attractive multiple.
1899-1900 Pictorials ½d deep green block of 38, 2d deep violet block of 32 & 2½d indigo block of 16, unmounted, Cat £850++.

REVENUES - POSTAL NOTES: c.1918 CofA with '+++/POSTAGE STAMPS TO THE VALUE OF FIVE PENCE TO BE AFFIXED HEREIN/+++++' at Top in Red 'TASMANIA' 6d, severed along folds & rejoined, small piece missing at the base, 'WEST D'PORT/ 5JA18/TASMANIA' cds. [Tasmanian Postal Notes are the most elusive of all the States]

1853-60 entires from GB to Tasmania carried by P&O contract vessels with 1853 (Sep 3) rated 1/- per "Chusan", 1853 (Nov 3) rated 2/- per "Madras", 1854 (Mar 31) rated 1/- per "Norna", 1854 (May 9) rated 2/3d via Marseilles per "Norna", 1854 (Nov 8) rated 2/8d for double via Marseilles rate per "Madras", and 1860 (June 19) rated 6d for Uniform Empire rate per "Jeddo", condition variable.
FRANK STAMPS: Group of envelopes with 'CORPORATION OF HOBART', 'CORPORATION OF LAUNCESTON' (registered to England), 'GOVERNMENT STATISTICIAN' (a wrapper), 'GOVERNOR' Types 1 & 2, 'INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION' CTO, 'MARINE BOARD HOBART', superb 'MARINE BOARD LAUNCESTON', superb 'RE DUTIES DEPARTMENT' & 'UNIVERSITY OF/TASMANIA' (a postcard), condition a bit variable; also cutouts with superb strikes of 'MERSEY MARINE BOARD FORMBY', 'MARINE BOARD OF LEVEN' & 'THE MARINE BOARD OF MERSEY DEVONPORT'. A very good lot.

POSTAL STATIONERY: 1898 Scenic Issue Envelopes 2d & 2½d HG B2 & 3 complete set of the twelve views, three 2d Envelopes have tiny blemishes otherwise superb unused. [These envelopes are among the most beautiful postal stationery items ever issued. Printed by Waterlow & Sons, only 308 sets were produced]
POSTAL STATIONERY: 1901 Mining Series Letter Cards 2d HG A3 "TASMANIA MINE, BEACONSFIELD" (goldmining) and "WESTERN SILVER MINE, ZEEHAN", unused. Remarkably fine with none of the usual toning.
POSTMARKS: Collection neatly arranged in two stockbooks from early-KGV to modern rubber types, mostly on piece with numerous very fine to superb strikes including many "cleanskins" (no stamps), no great rarities noted but a handy basis for a new collecting interest.
