GOVERNOR-GENERAL: 1900-02 envelopes with the h/s in blue, the first an irregular & unauthorised pre-Federation usage within NSW with Sydney DE29/00 cds & 'Government House Sydney/[Arms]' in red on the flap, the others with 'GOVERNOR GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA/[Arms]' in black (mourning cover, the flap damaged) or ultramarine on the flap, both to England with 'VICTORIA/[crown]/OFFICIAL PAID' h/s. All absent from the census but the first is illustrated at page 87 where it is wrongly identified as #E40. [See also Lot 281250 ]
GOVERNOR-GENERAL: 1901 mourning envelope with very fine h/s in violet & Melbourne cds of 22.6.01 (S&W #90), to the Administrator of Tasmania, flap removed & minor blemishes. Rated RRRR: the only cover recorded with the h/s in violet. [From the period between the departure of Tasmanian Governor The Lord Gormanston and the arrival of Captain Sir Arthur Havelock]
ROYAL MINT: Very fine h/s in blue on 1901 mourning envelope with seriffed 'ROYAL MINT/...' imprint at L/L (S&W #E20), to NSW with Sydney arrival b/s, light overall aging.

DOWN TRAIN 2: Type 3 (Small Octagon) superb b/s of JA18/89 on mourning cover from Ireland with GB 6d Jubilee tied by superb Dublin duplex, Melbourne arrival b/s, forwarded to Queenscliff & serviced on the train between Melbourne & Geelong, light 'QUEENSCLIFF' arrival backstamp. Rated R on cover but most examples are on mail between Melbourne-Geelong-Ballarat or Geelong-Ballarat, whereas this is from the much shorter Melbourne-Geelong sector. [With the original letter]
DOWN TRAIN 4: Type 1 (Large Octagon) largely very fine b/s of 3JY72 (LRD) on mourning cover from Scotland with Plate 5 1/- green, to "Scots Church/Melbourne" forwarded to 'TARADALE' (b/s) with De La Rue 2d x2 added for the redirection fee. Rated RRR+ with date configured DDMMYY (seen only in 1872).
DOWN TRAIN 15: Type 1 (Octagon) largely very fine b/s of JE17/02 on mourning cover from Scotland with superb 'BARRHILL/AYRSHIRE' cds, to "Metung/Gippsland Lakes" with Bairnsdale transit & 'METUNG' arrival b/s, redirected to Hawthorn, minor flap fault. Rated RRRR: seven covers recorded. Ex Max Watson.
