WWII CIVIL CENSORSHIPQUEENSLAND: Group with wide variety of Brisbane labels one maroon/white (recorded 10 days only) & cachets including 'RELEASE' [sic] x2, one with boxed 'PRIVILEGED MAIL/GOVERNOR OF QUEENSLAND/...' cachet, two with American Forces red/grey labels & defaced machine cancels (one excised & covered by part of a second label !), range of destinations including Penang, Denmark with huge 'OAT' cachet, Ireland, India, Singapore & France censored in Ireland (!), also inwards mail from Singapore, Persia, Papua, New Guinea including 1941 mission cover from Madang with '1 /NOT/OPENED BY/CENSOR/ 7' cachet and Australian & American Forces covers with '1'-in-circle h/s, plus Townsville x20 with various '1/2' labels & cachets, one with boxed 'UNIT POSTAL STATION/S57' d/s used at Thursday Island, generally fine to very fine.

THURSDAY ISLAND:1943 airmail covers from the one correspondence to "Lieut William B Henry/Sh D Stations P & Q/Torres Island Force" at various rates with a variety of frankings, about half with 'FIELD PO/0101' arrival cds used at Thursday Island, condition variable. Proceeds to Walter & Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research.
QUEENSLAND: Single volume of mostly Brisbane & environs with better subjects & some Undivided Backs including a 1901 "court"-size card, also a couple of PPC-size advertising cards, generally fine to very fine.

1908 Visit of the US "Great White Fleet" complete set of the 1d & 1½d Postal Cards for the six States plus the officially issued formular types 'TO/SYDNEY' & 'TO/MELBOURNE', the South Australian with corner bend otherwise very fine unused. Rarely offered as a set. [Numbers sold were NSW 1d x9560 & 1½d x2320; Queensland x5760; South Australia x4500; Tasmania x2000; Victoria 1d x19,008 & 1½d x7404; & Western Australia x9249]
Large box of pre-1913 postmarkson stamp or piece from NSW, Queensland, South Australia & Western Australia. Could be finds a-plenty.

Mint & used accumulationincluding NSW with Diadems including 8d * (faults), Qld with values to £1, SA with Long Toms to 5/-, Tasmania Pictorials and 1950s Railway Parcel stamps to £1, Victoria with later issues in quantity, WA 1d black imperf (faults), also a few revenues, some postmark interest, condition very mixed.
Oddmentscomprising NSW 8d Lyrebird mint; Queensland Small Chalon 2d SG 111 with superb Rays '93' cancel; South Australia DLR 2d SG 170, very fine with large-part o.g.; Tasmania Numeral Watermarks Chalon 4d pale blue, close even margins, large-part o.g.; Victoria Emblems 4d SG 87, minor defects, unused, Stamp Statute 1d, rust spot on reverse, large-part o.g., and 15/- brown CTO.
Railway stamps selection with NSW mint 10c blocks of 4 & 8 in different shades & 20c block of 4; Queensland pre-decimals used to 2/-, decimals mint blocks 25c from 'CALEN', and used to $10; and Western Australia including 'TOTAL/WEST PARCEL' types to $3 (2 different), 'BULK PARCEL' types x2 different, & a good range of different cash register label types; & a few others, condition variable.

Accumulation with lots of Small Chalons including 4d yellow x2, 4d lilac x3, 6d green shades x24 & a very scarce 1/- violet strip of 3, array of Sideface issues including Lined Background 4d yellow mint pair, etc, also more than 100 commercial perfins with values to 4d yellow, condition variable.
1860 Large StarImperf 1d carmine-rose SG 1 horizontal pair, deep colour, margins close to large with full outer framelines, ironed-out horizontal crease & minor toning, Rays '23' cancels (Bernie Manning rated RRRR) of Budgeworgorai, Cat £1600+. An extremely rare multiple. Budgeworgorai opened 1.9.1861; replaced by Roma 1/1/1864.
1882-95 Large Chalons£1 perforated plate proof in plum on thick watermarked paper. [Basset Hull at page 160 states that this was a colour trial made in March 1897, apparently for a proposed change of colour]

1882 Second Sidefaces with Lined Background Perf 12 2d blue horizontal pair Imperforate Between SG 168a, indistinct Barred Numeral cancellation, Cat £3000. RPSofL Certificate (2007). [Ken Scudder at page 122 states "On at least one occasion, a vertical line of perforations was omitted, as pairs imperforate between are known". Both stamps are also imperforate at the top]
1895 Â½d green Void BackgroundPerf 12½,13 with Double Impression SG 208a, light horizontal crease, large-part o.g. with a hinge remainder, Cat £2000. BPA Certificate (2009). Stated to be the only unused example recorded. [The first print was quite faint & was obviously considered unsatisfactory; the strong second print is 2mm to the right; with normal stamp for comparison. Ken Scudder at page 179 states "Clear double prints exist...probably all...from the same sheet of stamps". Unpriced by Gibbons until 2011, now listed at £2000 unused or used, but a less dramatic used example sold for SFr24,225 at a Swiss auction in 2003]
RAILWAY STAMPS:1872 Southern & Western Railway 1/- imperforate plate proof in blue on thin card, margins good to large, magenta pen-cancel across the face. See Elsmore's footnote below #QR2: rated RRRR. [Ray Kelly's similar proof - stained on the reverse - sold at the Prestige auction of 1.12.2007 for $977]
RAILWAY STAMPS:c.1950s Russell & Sons Dairy Engineers (Toowoomba) complete parcel tag to Warwick with 1d blue & 10d purple both inscribed 'TOOWOOMBA' & Railway Numeral '55' (?) cancels. A scarce survivor.
QUEENSLAND - Postal History
1878(Jan 11) cover to France "Via Suez" with rare three-colour franking of 1d vermilion, 4d yellow & 6d apple-green tied by 'QL'-in-Rays of Brisbane (cds below), 'PARIS A RENNES/12/MARS/78/ B ' transit b/s & 'ST-SERVAN/ILLE ST VILLAINE' arrival b/s, a few faults.
POSTAL STATIONERY:High quality unused selection with both Reply Postal Card, 1d red "Views of Maryborough" CTO, 1d+1d Reply Letter Card CTO x2 , STO Envelope 1d 120x85mm, etc.
POSTMARKS:Registered covers from Camp Hill (1932), Dulbolla (1925), Eight Mile Plains (1928), Kuraby (1935, mss registration endorsement), Milmerran (1917), Russell Island (1948), Shinfield (1938, mss registration endorsement), etc, group of 1960s covers with provisional lables, also loose labels including black/blue & 'Air Force PO' types, noted 'Chevron Island' block of 25; then about 200 postmarks on piece, condition variable but many fine.
