1947 (Jan 17) usage of 7d Aerogramme to Germany uprated with Emu 5½d pair, US censor label & cachet in violet, Berlin arrival b/s, front & back panels only but with the complete letter re sending of food parcels, adhesions. [Before 26.8.1947 there was no aerogramme service to Germany so full airmail rate of 1/6d was required]

1942 (Feb 14) airmail cover from Melbourne to a member of 2/21 Battalion with 'ARMY POSTAL SERVICE/ DELIVERY IMPRACTICABLE/...' handstamp, minor blemishes. [LCpl William James Chung was a member of "Gull" Force comprising 1131 men who were transported from Darwin by sea to defend Ambon. The Japanese landed 20,000 troops on the island & "Gull" Force was forced to surrender. 779 members died either on Ambon - including 229 who were massacred at Laha after surrendering - or after being moved to the Chinese island of Hainan]
SOUTH AUSTRALIA - Postal History
1859 cover to London "per Emeu" with very scarce franking of First Roulettes 6d slate-blue SG 17 tied by 'PAID/OC18/1859/=ADELAIDE-S.A.=' cds in blue, 'LONDON-SW/ A5 /DE14/59' arrival b/s, minor soiling & wrinkling.
Mostly used on pages with 1860-64 Imperf 2d (possibly deep vermilion SG 25b) & 6d x3 all used, 1861 Intermediate Perf 1d 2d & 6d x2 & Clean-Cut Perf 6d, 1864-79 to 1/- (both shades), 'ONE PENNY' on 2d, Perf 12x14 1d, 'Half-penny' Overprint in Red & Green both shades (mint), condition rather mixed so inspection is recommended.
1854-55 Lithographs Imperf 4d blue SG 3a, margins good to large, void-grid cancel in red, Cat £250+. Coloured cancellations are rare on this issue.
1863 (c.) imperforate stamp-size essay for a 1d White Swan plate proof in pale violet-blue on ungummed unwatermarked paper, close even margins. Rare. [NB: all Australian swans are black]
1864-79 Crown/CC 2d imperforate plate proof block of 4 in bluish green on ungummed watermarked paper from the base of the sheet, margins just touching - at lower-left - to huge. Rare. [Only a few examples are recorded, this being the only recorded block]
1864-79 Crown/CC Perf 12½ 1/- bright green with 'SPECIMEN' Handstamp as SG 61s but with 'SPECIMEN' Inverted, repaired 10mm tear at right, part-o.g., Cat £225++. Believed to be the only recorded example of this error.
1876-81 Crown/CC Perf 14 6d lilac SG 75 block of 4, large-part o.g., Cat £800++.
1882-85 CA Perf 14 2d chrome-yellow SG 77 block of 9, exceptional centring, very lightly mounted with virtually full o.g., Cat £378++. A delightful block.
1885-93 New Designs master die proof for the higher values with blank value tablet, in black on highly glazed card (91x60mm), handstamped 'AFTER/STRIKING' at U/L & '23JAN89' at 'U/R, no surface rubbing.
1905-12 Crown/A Perf 11 3d brown with the Watermark Sideways (Reversed) BW #W28aa (SG 153var), large-part o.g., Cat $750; and punctured 'OS' Perf 12½ 1d rose-red with the Watermark Sideways BW #W14A marginal block of 13 (5x3, less the first two units), some creasing, unmounted. Unlisted & rare. [The ACSC states that "OS punctures are found only in the rose-red shade with watermark upright, and are very scarce"]

Anaconda: 'ANACONDA/OC7/03/W.A' 21mm cds bold, slightly smudged strike on 2d Swan. PO 18.08.1903; renamed Eulaminna 15.10.1906. PMI records type but gives no dates of usage. [Copper mining]
