UNITED STATES: 1893 Columbus 10c die proof in sepia printed directly on thin white card (219x141mm) with 'American Bank Note Co New-York' Imprint at the base; and a plate proof single in brown-black on India paper. Superb! [The design includes two macaws]

1897 'IMPERIAL CHINESE POST' $1 deep red & pale red SG 105 affixed to a piece of interleaving, Cat £1500 mint.
1897 'IMPERIAL CHINESE POST' $2 orange & yellow SG 106 marginal example from the top of the sheet, one nibbled perf at the base, virtually full o.g., Cat £5000. [The stamp appears to have been hinged only in the margin. There is no trace of hinging on the stamp itself but there is some very minor gum disturbance]
NEW CALEDONIA: 1943 airmail to USA with Admirals 5fr, Kagu Bird 2fr50 blue & 20fr green + Airmails 50fr black, censored locally and on arrival, couple of light folds not affecting stamps. Remarkable usage of top values from both the Airmails and Kagu series on the one item. [The rate was 4fr second weight-step (up to 40g) plus 10fr50 per 5g airmail surcharge x7 for carriage by US military plane via Hawaii]

1963 registered airmail to England with scarce franking of QEII Pictorials 2/- Yacht & 5/- Badge paying 3/3d per ½oz airmail rate x2 + 6d registration fee, per ANA to Melbourne then per Qantas with London arrival b/s, couple of minor blemishes.
REGIONALS & ISLANDS: 1971 Wildlife Preservation Trust (First Issue) imperforate proofs in close to the issued colours on gummed unwatermarked paper, lightly mounted. [The key differences are the parrot's chest is red, not maroon; & the shading of the pheasant's tail]
GREAT BRITAIN - Postal History
1874 beautifully hand-illustrated Alice in Wonderland envelope in the style of Sir John Tenniel featuring the Cheshire Cat, a Court Page (the address is on his back) & a Parrot in Legal Robes, used in Ireland with 'DUBLIN' duplex cancel on 1d Red Plate '108' (?) & fine 'GALWAY' arrival b/s, some minor soiling. [This and the next seven lots have remained in the addressee's family & have never before been on the market. Four of the envelopes bear the family crest 'IN TENEBRIS LUCET FIDO' embossed on the flap, which should help identify the illustrator]

WAKE ISLAND: 1942 usage of Forces Dove & Helmet Postal Card with Kaya censor's chop in vermilion, return address translates as "c/- Yokosuka PO U103 U100". [U103 was on Wake Island]

Commercial mail carried on first flight and scarce thus. [2d letter rate + 6d airmail surcharge x2]
1935 (Mar 15) gold bullion parcel tag with rare and remarkable franking of Undated Airs 3d, 2/- marginal pair, 5/- & £1 block of 6 (the fourth unit damaged when affixed; the right-hand block of 4 is very fine) affixed to both sides & tied by 'WAU' cds. Ex Tom Frommer: acquired at Mossgreen on 4.4.2017 for $1800.
1935 (Nov 18) gold bullion parcel tag with rare and remarkable franking of Silver Jubilee 1d, Undated Airs 5/- & Bulolo £5 emerald tied by 'WAU' cds, registration cachet on the reverse, remarkably fine for such an item. Ex Tom Frommer: acquired at Mossgreen on 4.4.2017 for $3840. [The rate was 2d per 1oz letter rate x157 + 3d per ½oz airmail surcharge x314 + 3d registration + 2d late fee for registered articles = £5/5/1d. The only other £5 franking known to us is a similar large-part tag franked £5/4/3d Ex Ken Kutz, the current whereabouts of which is unknown]
1939 (Jan 13) commercial "all-up" airmail cover to Germany with Undated Birds 1/- & Undated Airs 9d tied by 'WAU' cds, transit b/s of 'SALAMAUA' & 'TOWNSVILLE' (where it connected with the Qantas service to Europe).
