C of A - Postal History
TELEGRAMS: 1941-45 accumulation of Forms & Envelopes x120+ to and from Sgt Ward RAAF in Egypt or England with a variety of Military & Telegraph postmarks and censor markings noted 'PASMEL 91', one cover with 'ADDRESSEE RETURNED TO AUSTRALIA' cachet, and later to him with 'RAAF 6304' or 'RAAF 4111' arrival cds, many with 'POST OFFICE/YARRAVILLE,W18' oval d/s in violet, also bundle of ration cards, FDCs including Pre-Decimal plus some Worldwide, condition mixed but many fine.
C of A - Flight Covers
Folio of ephemera related to Qantas, TAA etc with a good number of photographs with contemporary annotations &/or autographs on the reverse plus some later-generation prints, also letters & covers including badly damaged from GB with 'Salvaged From/ATHENA' cachet. Interesting lot.
1943-45 TRANS-INDIAN OCEAN FLIGHTS: 1943 "Secret Order of the Double Sunrise" certificate, unused & rarely seen thus, very fine; and 1944 "Elevated Order of the Longest Hop" certificate signed by the pilot, minor blemishes. [The illustration is above Lot 415]
C of A - Military - World War I
POWs in GERMANY: 1915-16 issues of "In Ruhleben Camp" Nos 1-10 (1915) plus "The Ruhleben Bye-Election" (propaganda for candidate Israel Cohen); "The Ruhleben Camp Magazine" Nos 1-6 (1916-17); and larger format "Prisoners' Pie/ Ruhleben/New Year 1916"; some separation of the covers etc but generally in sound to fine condition. Lots of humorous content, illustrations etc providing excellent insights into camp life. (18 titles); also WWII Mickey Mouse souvenirs x2 & Marching Koalas Christmas Card.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA: Real photo PPC of a school cadet, heavy crease, unused; and 1911 'RECORD BOOK' re exemptions from attending military training issued to a schoolboy & details of two unit transfers, 'RIFLES CLUB OFFICE/SA' cachet in red on the reverse.

VICTORIA: 1902 cover to Hawthorn with 1d & two large-part strikes ' 2 /MILITARY/MR10/02/ENCAMPMENT' Shield d/s used at Langwarrin Military Camp (1), Melbourne transit & Hawthorn arrival b/s, minor blemishes & repaired tear at top; plus the enclosed letter with printed 'No 2 Commonwealth Contingent/Melbourne YMCA Tent/Langwarrin Victoria' states "...I will be up in uniform". PO 9.1.1902; closed mid-1902.

1833 letter re William Hopwood of Guildford having been given permission to visit Sydney, signed by the Principal Superintendent (of Convicts?), very fine; 1853 Affidavit of parties wishing to marry, rather soiled; and 1874 OPSO cover with very fine '[crown]/FREE/23JY23/1874' cds of Hobart, 'RICHMOND' arrival b/s, minor blemishes.
Accumulation of Australia & World including NSW Wedderburn Weir & 'Umberumberka Weir, Broken Hill' real photos, 'Numurkah Weir' (Victoria), Tweed Heads/Coolangatta x6 attractively framed, Military with Punch Cartoon's "New Rake's Progress" fine set of 12 in battered envelope plus four more nicely framed, smutty Humour, a few Nudes, Greetings, also Advertising with ephemera including ship & travel brochures, Daily Graphics "Special War Cartoons" booklets #2 3 4 & 5, 1964 Newsweek magazine featuring Warren Commission report on the JFK Assasination,etc, condition mostly fine. Weighs 10kg.
mid-1800s illustrated lettersheets featuring engraved illustrations of Roman monuments, Renaissance churches etc on cream x14, blue x7 or grey papers, some blemishes but most are fine to very fine unused. A very attractive group that would be worth a lot of money if postally used.
REVENUES: Complete probate documents with various mostly QV Long Type adhesives 1) 1907-21 x4 with embossed cancels on £3/10/-; 4/- & £2; 8/- 10/- & 45/-; and 10/- & £8 (damaged); and 2) 1930-47 x5 with 'FINE PAID' perfins on 5/- £7 £30 & £100; 30/- £4 £30 £45 & £50; £200 (+ Arms £30 x2); the last two with Arms 8/- £3 & £7 pair; or 15/- & £3; usual folds otherwise generally fine to very fine.

ADDINGTON: 1914 illustrated YMCA cover with '.../CHRISTCHUCH - NEW ZEALAND' imprint to Auckland with 1d tied by fair strike of 'MILITARY CAMP/NZ/ 7 /SP14/--' relief cds (no year slug; LRD), overall soiling. With the matching letterhead, the message headed "Christchurch Military Camp/September 14th 1914" states "I suppose you know by this I am going with the troops..." suggesting he hadn't told his family that he had enlisted, minor repaired split. PO 14/8/1914; closed 14/9/1914 the date of this duo. Ex Gordon Darge. [Trooper Heywood Armstrong of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles survived the war]

1943-45 Army 'MESSAGE FORM's for the Australia New Guinea Production Board (PCB) both plain language & enciphered messages, many with 'ARMY/PM---/SIGNALS' d/s or with 'PM' omitted, many with various ANGAUR cachets, one with pre-WWII 'RESIDENT MAGISTRATE/EASTERN DIVISION' d/s, condition variable.
1935 cover from Lucy Christian to USA with New Zealand Pictorials 1d Kiwi tied 'PITCAIRN ISLAND/17SP35/NZ POSTAL AGENCY' cds enclosing letter on White Star Line illustrated stationery which includes a lengthy description of life on the island and its inhabitants including "... I am born Young a direct descendant from Young of the Bounty and married to Christian ... the fourth generation from the originals of the Bounty", couple of minor blemishes.
1938 Richard Edgar Christian return-addressed envelope to USA with New Zealand Pictorials 1d Kiwi tied 'PITCAIRN ISLAND/-6MR38/NZ POSTAL AGENCY' cds enclosing five dried leaves including transparent 'soap tree' types personally inscribed from his wife Ada Christian to the addressee, couple of minor blemishes. These leaves are still today produced as tourist 'trinkets' from the Island; remarkable survivors in quite fine condition.
REVENUES: 1890-1960s array of 940 revenue stamps on 61 documents, noted 1899 Court Fee bicolours & surcharges, Elephant types, many WWI issues, later charity, military & provisional issues, others with annotated varieties, a few rare types, condition variable.
