C of A - Postal History
1934 (Dec 11) form for 'RECEIVED TELEGRAM' from Sydney with 'DARWIN/NT' cds, with the envelope to Scotland endorsed "RECEIVED AT DARWIN FOR ONWARD TRANSMISSION BY AIR MAIL" with scarce 'PAID/DARWIN NT' cds. The first Australia-England flight departed Brisbane 10.12.1934 per "Hippomenes"; then per "Arethusa" ex Darwin 12.12.1934.

1935 JB Were & Son cover (358x254mm) airmail to London with 'LATE FEE' boxed cachet in violet, Kangaroos CofA Wmk 10/- x3 & 5/-, Anzac 1/- and Hermes 1/6d pair + KGV 1d all tied by 'LATE FEE/MELBOURNE VIC' cds, vertical fold not affecting stamps, a little battered at the edges with the Hermes pair, 5/- & one of the 10/- creased &/or with small tears. [The rate was 1/6d x26 plus 1d late fee = £1/19/1d]
1938 envelope with photo of 'The beautiful Mt Riverview Lookout, Blaxland' in crimson, KGV 2d tied by 'GLENBROOK/NSW' cds. Lovely!
1938-49 mostly commercial covers all with 5d Ram frankings including registered, airmails including EAMS to GB x2, advertising covers, 'PB' perfin, postmarks, destinations including Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Holland (with large 'OAT' cachet) & Philippines, uses in TPNG, etc, condition variable but a very good "single-stamp" lot.
1946 'PARCEL POST/Form of Customs Declaration' red on buff form PP8 to England with small Parcel Post label of Perth, 1d 6d Kookbuarra & 9d Platypus block of 4 tied by Perth parcel roller cancel paying 3/7d rate for 7lb parcel under the 'Food for Britain' program, contents listed as fruit cake, stew, soup, custard powder, jelly & beef extender (yum!), some edge faults not affecting stamps.
1970s-2000s covers, stationery & postcards mostly airmail to Europe, noted single & multiple frankings, some registered, special services, instructional markings, taxed & adverts, variety of issues & rates, potential postmark interest, fine condition.
1982-88 Reptiles & Amphibians plus 1983 Endangered Species usages accumulation with all values represented including single, multiple & mixed frankings, many overseas airmails plus some on postcards & stationery, noted 1c single on untaxed airmail cover & 70c single on large OHMS envelope, illustrated tourism covers, registered, AR & overseas express delivery, etc.
1984-88 Marine Life usages accumulation with all values represented including single, multiple & mixed frankings, many overseas airmails plus some on postcards & stationery, underpaid & taxed noted 33c with 'AUSTRALIA POST/POSTAGE DEFICIENCY ADJUSTED/O'SEAS SURFACE' cachet, registered, etc.
1989 Sports usages accumulation with all values represented including single, multiple & mixed frankings, many overseas airmails plus some on postcards & stationery, noted 43c pair with 'INSUFFICIENT PAID FOR AIR TRANSMISSION' cachet & 70c on PSE to Botswana, illustrated 'tourist' covers, Security Post & Economy Air, a few taxed including with Finnish postage due cachet, etc.
2001 to recent International Post covers & a few postcards mostly airmail to Europe with range of issues, noted mixed domestic/international frankings, a few stationery items, potential postmark interest. Ideal for study.
TELEGRAMS: 1941-45 accumulation of Forms & Envelopes x120+ to and from Sgt Ward RAAF in Egypt or England with a variety of Military & Telegraph postmarks and censor markings noted 'PASMEL 91', one cover with 'ADDRESSEE RETURNED TO AUSTRALIA' cachet, and later to him with 'RAAF 6304' or 'RAAF 4111' arrival cds, many with 'POST OFFICE/YARRAVILLE,W18' oval d/s in violet, also bundle of ration cards, FDCs including Pre-Decimal plus some Worldwide, condition mixed but many fine.
C of A - Military - World War I
1915 (Nov 7) cover with red/white perforated 'On Active Service/NO STAMPS/AVAILABLE' label cancelled with 1st Light Horse cds & tied by Geelong arrival, British-pattern No 2240 censor cachet in violet, redirected with scarce 'CARLSRUHE RLY STN' arrival b/s, non-contemporary endorsement on flap "written from Chalak Dere Gallipoli.../Norman Belcher". The label has not previously been seen by us & is believed to be unique! [Lieut Edward Norman Belcher returned to Australia in mid-1916]

Box of mostly WWII mail including a batch of Air Mail Letter Cards mostly from Palestine or Northern Territory one with 'POSTAGE/1d/PAID' in red, 20+ airgraphs one illustrated, RAN honour envelope unused, POW postcard from Thailand to NSW, etc, also some WWI & Vietnam items, BCOF honour envelopes "turned" for reuse x2, condition variable.
1943 usage of KGVI 1d green Envelope with straight-line 'AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE CANTEENS' within outline map at upper-left, 'AIF FIELD PO/6JA43/No 8' cds. Very scarce. [These envelopes are believed to have been issued in WA only. Ted Proud records the cds used in Palestine until 3.11.1942 & in TPNG from 23.9.1943. This example indicates previously unrecorded usage outside of Western Australia]
NEW SOUTH WALES: 1900 usage of 1d Postal Card with three part-strikes of the rare 'THE CAMP/DE31/1900/ NSW' cds (ERD), to 'MALTA' with arrival cds of FE3/01 on the face, minor blemishes. Rare: recorded 18 months only, & the only recorded example on cover. [Little is known of this "PO" or marking. It was presumably a "relief" type that moved from site to site]
SOUTH AUSTRALIA: 'MILITARY CAMP/17AP1911/STH AUSTRALIA' very fine strike on 1d red on Tourist Bureau PPC ("Morialta Falls") to Wallaroo. Rated RRRRR. PO at Happy Valley Camp Easter-1911. Ex John Bell: acquired at the Prestige auction of 14.11.2014 for $552. The writer states "Arrived safe...we had to march from [ ? ] to the top of tapley's hill". [This is the ERD for the Military Camp cds, which was essentially a "relief" datestamp. It had six separate allocations between Easter 1911 & 4.10.1915]
SOUTH AUSTRALIA: 'MILITARY CAMP/11AP1912/STH AUSTRALIA' largely superb strike on real photo PPC of the Camp at Murray Bridge, to Norwood. Rated RRRRR. PO Easter-1912. Ex John Bell: acquired at the Prestige auction of 14.11.2014 for $604. [The writer states "...will be home to protect you tomorrow about tea time...This is a photo of the camp..."]
VICTORIA: 1900 cover to "Reuters Telegram Co Ltd/Melbourne" with 2d tied by superb BN '231' (rated RR) & very fine large-part ' 1 /MILITARY/AP9/--/ENCAMPMENT' Shield d/s (year slugs omitted) used at Langwarrin Camp (5), Melbourne arrival b/s, central vertical fold. PO 28.3.1900; closed 18.4.1900. Ex Gary Watson.
VICTORIA: 1901 cover to NSW with 2d tied by superb ' 1 /MILITARY/MY8/01/ENCAMPMENT' Shield d/s used at Langwarrin Camp (6), Sydney transit & Willoughby arrival b/s, minor blemishes. PO 15.1.1901; closed mid-1901.
VICTORIA: 1902 cover to Hawthorn with 1d & two large-part strikes ' 2 /MILITARY/MR10/02/ENCAMPMENT' Shield d/s used at Langwarrin Military Camp (1), Melbourne transit & Hawthorn arrival b/s, minor blemishes & repaired tear at top; plus the enclosed letter with printed 'No 2 Commonwealth Contingent/Melbourne YMCA Tent/Langwarrin Victoria' states "...I will be up in uniform". PO 9.1.1902; closed mid-1902.
