TASMANIA - Postal History
1887 cover to England with Sideface 1d red strip of 6, 2d green and 4d yellow all tied Barred Numeral '63' with 'NEW NORFOLK/JY27/87/TASMANIA' cds alongside paying 6d per ½oz ship letter rate x2, Hobart b/s, couple of minor marks. Apparently originally franked with the 1d strip and found to be over ½oz as the other two values have been affixed over a small part of the address, making a lovely three-colour franking.
Packet of pieces franked with Emblems, Beaded Ovals or Laureates, pieces with crowned-ovals of 'ROKEWOOD' & 'THE LEIGH' and superb 'SHIP LETTER/FREE/GEELONG-VICTORIA' cds, eleven early outers including with crowned-ovals of 'PAID/GEELONG' in black in error, 'COLAC', 'QUEENSCLIFF' & 'WINCHELSEA'.
Accumulation in stockbook with Imperfs including Half-Lengths very fine 1d, 1/- Octagonal pair (top unit cut into slightly), Emblems, etc, '8d' on 9d with Misplaced Overprint, then later issues in quantity noted Double Perfs on 1d brown x2 and 4d olive, also some mint including 'Reprint' overprints, Revenues to £10 including postally-used to 5/-, plenty of postmark interest with lots of numerals and quite a few TPOs, apparently unchecked for perfs & wmks, condition mixed but many fine.
1884-96 Large Stamp Duty Typo 4/- orange x7 (two pairs and a strip of three), 5/- red pair & 10/- green x2 all with 'ENGLISH MAIL TPO/+' duplex cancels, also 5/- claret/yellow (rounded corner) with two part-strikes of 'RMSS HOBSONS BAY' duplex.
