C of A - Postal History
1910 underpaid Lubin Manufacturing Co (Philadelphia) cover with USA 5c Washington, taxed with 'SEATTLE /T/10/CENTIMES' opera-glass cachet converted on arrival with Sydney '3D' cachet alongside, Postage Dues Completed Design ½d block of 4 and pair affixed tied by 'NSW' concentric-rings cancels, minor edge faults & slightly shortened at right not affecting stamps or markings.

1922 usage of 1½d Postal Card for Royal Society of Victoria to New York with bold 'T/30c' h/s & 5-line 'THIS LETTER WAS POSTED INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID/...' cachet in violet, US 'DUE/6/CENTS' h/s and precancelled Postage Due 1c & 5c affixed, stained on the reverse.
1931 large-part parcel wrapping (249x116mm) to USA with Kangaroos SMult Wmk 2/- pair & 5/- (Cat $1500 on cover) tied by 'REGISTERED ELIZABETH ST/22JA31/MELBOURNE' cds, blue RL alongside, San Francisco transit, 'Supposed liable to US/Customs Duties' and 'PASSED FREE/US CUSTOMS/BOSTON MASS' cachets in violet on face, wax seal removed and a couple of minor marks affecting one 2/- unit.
1939-44 inwards airmail covers including from Argentina 1939 at 1p95c rate, India 1941 twice censored, Panama 1944 at 90c rate with postal tax unpaid but forwarded after additional 1c affixed and cachet crossed-out, USA x2 at 70c PanAm Clipper rate, also surface mail from England forwarded to Trinidad, South Africa with Hobart black censor label, USA to New Hebrides via Sydney, condition mixed but mostly fine.
1940 (Nov 7) large envelope (305x240mm) with rare franking of Kangaroos £1 grey (with smudged thumbprint; undercatalogued at $4000 on cover) + Robes 5/- & 10/- and 9d Platypus all tied by 'GPO SYDNEY/ AIR /7NO40/ 1 / NSW-AUST' cds, 'CALIFORNIA/CLIPPER' h/s in violet x2, opened for inspection & resealed with plain brown paper plus a single standard Censor label & two strikes of Sydney Passed cachet in violet, three folds well clear of the stamps, repaired opening tears on the reverse. [Only the second £1 Roo cover we have handled]
1940 & 1941 small double-rate Clipper covers Sydney to GB 1) Greenhalgh's Surgical Dressings etc advertising cover airmail with AIF 2d, Hermes 1/6d and 10/- Robes; and 2) with Koala 4d, KGVI 1/4d and 10/- Robes; a couple of minor blemishes.
1947 (Jan 17) usage of 7d Aerogramme to Germany uprated with Emu 5½d pair, US censor label & cachet in violet, Berlin arrival b/s, front & back panels only but with the complete letter re sending of food parcels, adhesions. [Before 26.8.1947 there was no aerogramme service to Germany so full airmail rate of 1/6d was required]
1955 (Dec 28) double-rate envelope (254x180mm) with all-over multicoloured advertising for Lawrence Robinson & Sons (Seed Merchants) to Queensland with ½d x2 2d & 3d tied by Neutral Bay (NSW) cds, minor blemishes. An extraordinary item. [The letter rate was 3½d for the first ounce + 2½d for the second ounce]
1967 (May 16) late commercial usage of 10d Aerogramme to New York with Banking 4c tied by Canberra slogan cancel, minor blemishes. [Pre-decimal stamps and postal stationery remained valid for two years from C-Day 14.2.1966 until 14.2.1968. However, most commercial usages seen are from early-1966]

REGISTRATION ENVELOPES: 1903 Melbourne Printings 4d ultramarine size 230x100mm with V-cut below the flap #R4d (HG C4a) commercial usage to New York with Tablets 2½d & Pictorials 1d tied by Hobart cds of JA19/06, Vancouver Winnipeg & St Paul MN transit & 'WALL STREET STA NEW YORK NY/REGISTERED' arrival b/s, minor soiling & a small piece of the flap missing. Rare: only two other commercially used examples have been recorded, along with several philatelic usages. [David McNamee's example had a mutilated flap]

1896 cover to USA with fraudulent use of Large Stamp Duty 6d blue with pen cancel erased (but still visible) plus 2d tied 'BOURKE STREET EAST' cds paying 2½d letter rate x2 + 3d registration, San Francisco arrival b/s.
Huge worldwide accumulation in albums, on 100s of Hagner sheets and loose, looks to be mostly low-value stamps in larger quantities but there could be a surprise lurking amongst them, noted USA with 19th Century, Canada including some ** postage, plenty of GB, British Commonwealth with Transvaal remainders in blocks, Germany, Asia with China & Thailand, Eastern Europe including folder of Russian M/Ss, some Cinderellas & Revenues, potential postmark interest, also a few covers including commercial mail, condition very mixed.
World mint & used in 60+ albums some priced individually, also collection remainders noted British Comonwealth including Mauritius, South Africa with Transvaal in larger blocks, Canada used including QV to 50c, 1908 Quebec 7c & 10c, 1929 50c Bluenose, 1930s sets to $1, also foreign with plenty of USA, etc, lots of thematics, condition mixed but many fine. Weighs 75+kg.

"CINDERELLAS": Extensive array with strength in Europe including Spanish Civil War, Poland WWII three different sheets of 50, Trade Shows, Christmas & Exhibition labels etc, United States with lots of TB issues & Boys Homes setenant issues, also Britain with lots of Royalty, Canada, New Zealand, Australia including Railway Stamps & NSW Laureates 6d reprint sheet of 25, etc, loads of modern mullock but plenty of better earlier material including numerous poster stamps & some Revenues, Thailand progressive plate proofs, condition variable but generally fine to very fine, most unused/mint with some unmounted; also 13 woven flags noted as World War I "cigarette cards" (not previously seen by us). Many hours of fun.
AUSTRALIA: 1915 usage of KGV Sideface 1d red Stamped To Order Envelope for Rosella Preserving & Manufacturing Co (Melbourne) with superb illustration of a rosella, to California so underpaid & with 'T/30c' h/s of Melbourne & American 'Postage due 6 Cents' h/s, light central fold & small repaired tear at the top. A beautiful item. [One of Australia's most desirable advertising envelopes]
UNITED STATES: Batch of parrot-related covers etc including prestamp outer to Senator Parrott with oval 'PORTSMOUTH NH' d/s & 'FREE' h/s, 1893 registered to Canada with Columbus 10c, c.1900 2c Envelope with parrot advert for Dozier Bakery, c.1869 with 3c Train tied by woodcut "apple" of Waterford NH, 1887 with superb rubber 'PARROTT/OHIO' cds, 1930s woodcut cancels from Fairfield IO, Narberth PA, Parrott GA x2, Polly KY - the frontispiece for the exhibit - & Parrott OH, four WWII illustrated V-Mails, illustrated advertising mail & meter cancels, generally fine to very fine.
UNITED STATES: 1893 Columbus 10c die proof in sepia printed directly on thin white card (219x141mm) with 'American Bank Note Co New-York' Imprint at the base; and a plate proof single in brown-black on India paper. Superb! [The design includes two macaws]
