POSTAL CARDS - Official - Government Railways - Formular: 'THE HAWKESBURY RIVER. From Sydney, 36 miles.' view (identical caption to STO cards) with Printed Advice for Secretary, used 1908 with Arms 1d 'GR' puncture tied Sydney duplex, a few blemishes.

Accumulation on mostly KGV 1d greens sorted in stockbook including a few 'OS' overprints and some identified varieties, plus 200 (approx) covers etc mostly with Adelaide cancels including range of slogans, noted 1930 with Sturt 1½d plate '4' single on cover, 1934 Vardon & Sons Printers parcel tag with KGV 1d & 2d x2, advertising covers for Australian Licorice (illustrated), Quelltaler Wines, etc, some KGVI & QEII stamped-to-order stationery envelopes, condition variable; plus 'SA & NT Post Offices' by Martin Walker.

1894 oversize cover (209x143mm) endorsed "On Public Service" addressed to "The President/International Post Philatelic Exhibition Committee/Milan/Italy" with 'OS' Overprints 2d SG O55 and 1/- SG O30 tied by 'REGISTERED ADELAIDE/AP21/94/SA' squared circle, 'R' in oval cachet and 'CORRESPONDENCE OFFICE/GPO' cds in violet alongside, 'MILANO/20/5-94' arrival b/s, central fold not affecting stamps, seal cut from back and a few aging marks. [Presumably used to send South Australian display material to the Exhibition]
VICTORIA - Postal History
1869-84 Governors' mail comprising 1) 1869 OHMS cover with 'PRIVATE SECRETARY'S OFFICE' imprint & 'THE GOVERNOR OF VICTORIA' colourless embossing on the flap; 2) 1873 OHMS cover & enclosed letter both with Governor embossing & both signed "GF Bowen"; 3) two 1884 covers to the Governor of South Australia both signed "MNormanby". [Viscount Canterbury was Governor in 1866-1873; Sir George Ferguson Bowen 1873-1879; and the Marquess of Normanby 1879-1884]

1901 OHMS envelope with 'ABORIGINES' imprint & 'CHIEF SECRETARY' Frank to Hamilton endorsed from "Condah" with poor 'MILLTOWN/VICTORIA' cds and Barred Numeral 'MCCCC/2' alongside, light but discernable 'M. V. I. I. STAHLE/ABORIGINAL MISSION STATION/LAKE CONDAH' cachet in violet on back, some staining and edge faults. [The Church of England Lake Condah Mission Station was established in 1867 with Johann Heinrich Stahle appointed in 1875 to run it, a position he occupied for 38 years until his retirement in June 1913. This is only the second item we have seen from the Mission Station, neither of which are recorded by Stieg & Watson]
1935 Administration of Nauru OHMS long cover unfranked to Melbourne with 'OFFICIAL PAID/NAURU' cds, similar small cover to US with 'NAURU/23AU37/CENTRAL PACIFIC' cds, plus Freighters to 1/- on 1951 registered philatleic cover.
NEW GUINEA - Mandated Territory Issues
Handy group of mostly 1930s commercial official & philatelic covers with a few better frankings, 1935 endorsed "via Rabaul/late fee" to Victoria with Papuan ½d 1½d & 2d tied by 'RABAUL' cds, Victoria, 1937 Rabaul Volcano flight x2, 1941 air to Qld with Lady Gowrie label on the reverse (the only example we have seen from New Guinea), 1941 censored to Hong Kong airmail to Singapore with two different postmen's h/s & 'BUY/BOMBERS' h/s, etc, a few are registered, condition variable.
1958 (May 5) Australian OHMS cover (257x201mm) with 'The Correspondence School/Blackfriars' imprint at L/L, to Paton Memorial Hospital in Vila by Second-Class Airmail with 6d Kooka & 5/- Arms tied by Sydney parcel roller, boxed 'EXCEEDS ("8") OZS/T ("144") CENTIMES/AIR 2' cachet in violet, the reverse with French 'TIMBRE-TAXE' 10c 40c & 1fr tied by Vila parcel roller. A remarkable cover.
