Only three registered covers are recorded: the almost identical cover with 'R' label '83' - stated then to be unique - sold at a Perth auction in 2007 for $10,175]
1938 cover to SS Orford at Fremantle endorsed "Per SS Islander/via Xmas Island/to Singapore" with Straits 8c Coronation tied by Singapore cds. With the enclosed brochure headed 'The Cocos Islands'. Acquired at a Perth auction in 2008 for $1320. [The Orient Line raised money for maritime charities by selling such brochures to passengers]

TELEGRAPHIC MESSAGES ON POSTAL CARDS: 1937 (June 28) Straits 2c to GB by air per Imperial uprated with KGV 1c & Coronation 12c tied by Singapore cds of 29JU/1937. Message: "Cocos/.../Mail delayed one week...following mail leaves Singapore Oct 23rd...". Ex Rob Holley: acquired at a society auction in 2018 for £1650. [On 1.12.1934, the letter & postcard rates had been reduced to 25c & 15c respectively]

MAIL PER TSS 'ISLANDER': 1951 stampless cover with '[crown]/GviR' monogram h/s of King George VI at lower-left & 'OFFICIAL PAID/25AU/51/ BALMORAL CASTLE' cds in red, to "The Manager/Cable & Wireless Ltd/Cocos-Keeling Islands", minor blemishes. An outstanding item for collectors of Royal mail.
1953 Orient Line cover to Sussex with GB Coronation 2½d tied by very fine strike of the Malay 'COCOS/5OCT53/ISLAND' cds, minor blemishes. At the request of Cable & Wireless to P&O, this was the last barrel mail. [The letter on RMS 'Otranto' stationery from the addressee's wife is headed "At Sea/Indian Ocean/1.10.53" & states "...we are going to pass close to the Cocos Islands...& it is proposed to drop overboard a barrel containing mail...this will be the last occasion...the Tin Can Mail will be performed..."]

1953 cover with sender's address "RAF Detachment/Cocos Islands/..." on the flap & endorsed "Forces Mail/By Air Mail", to the BBC in London with Singapore Coronation 10c tied by 'DEMPSEY ROAD/28OCT53/SINGAPORE' cds, opened-out. [A RAF detachment was sent to Cocos to provide support for the RAF's entrant in the London-Christchurch Air Race. However, the plane failed tropical tests & was withdrawn from the race]

1954 Royal Visit group comprising airmail cover to GB with superb strike of the huge Royal Visit cachet in violet, printed "map" cover to GB with blue & black/white 'Cocos Island' 'R' label, and three covers - one an Arthur Bergen - with Australian adhesives deemed invalid & all with Malay-pattern 'T/CENTIMES/("25c")' h/s, one with Postage Due 2d block of 4 on the reverse.
1954 cover with the Royal Coat-of-Arms embossed in red on the flap & endorsed "Personal", to an aide de camp at Buckingham Palace, Singapore 12c tied by superb 'COCOS/5APR54/ISLAND' cds. Rare mail from the Royal entourage.
1954 use of Jothee & Co formular aerogramme with printed 'Form Approved by the PMG Malaya No 3 (1)' endorsed on the reverse "JR Bartlett/C&W Ltd/Cocos Island", to Peru (!) with Singapore KGVI 20c & Coronation 10c tied by cds of 1MY54. Unusual & rare and a terrific origin/destination item. [Lengthy social letter states "The big news here is still the Royal Visit...It all went off like a bomb...I was one of the half dozen presented to HM and HRH..."]
