OUTER (MESSAGE) CARDS: 'HOBART FROM THE BAY' in red-violet with KGV d green - paying the wartax - tied by 'SOUTHERN CROSS/17MY20/WESTN AUST' cds, Cat $400. A very late usage: most remaining cards were severed, overprinted, & re-issued as single cards in 1917. [Interesting letter between female railway workers]

'BURRINJUCK DAM NEW SOUTH WALES/Irrigating a young Citrus Orchard...' in dull greenish blue Die 1 Perf 12 ACSC #LC18 overprinted 'MURRUMBIDGEE/IRRIGATION SCHEME' in Black with 1d added & tied by 'LEETON/29JA19/=NSW=' cds, small spikehole on the address panel, Cat $1500. One of the rarest views, with very few examples recorded. [The Irrigation Commission requested that the overprint be applied to 1200 cards that they supplied. This was approved by Treasury, effected by Harrison, and the cards returned by him to the Commission for their own use, leaving no doubt that this was an official, if limited, issue]

'CARTING-FAR NORTH' (camel train) in purple LC36c, Melbourne 'HELP REPATRIATION/BUY WAR SAVINGS/CERTIFICATES' slogan cancel of 21JE/1920, small opening fault below the view, Cat $5000. Unique: an exceptional error. RPSofV Certificate (1988). [The error presumably occurred because Harrison was printing the new 1d cards at the same time he was surcharging the 1d cards. The ACSC states "The only recorded example is used at Melbourne 21.6.1920"]

This is such an outstanding and singular error that, although doubtless produced inadvertently, we believe it should have a full catalogue number. At present it is 'lost' in the entries for the 1d on 1d cards. This is akin to the South Australian Crown/SA 'TENPENCE' on 9d

IMPERFORATE PROOF ACSC #LC41P(1)B: 'CLIFTON GARDENS/SYDNEY' (sailing boats) in deep red-purple on ungummed uniform grey stock with one corner folded back to reveal the inside stock, 'AUSTRALIAN NOTE/AND STAMP PRINTER/("3")' cachet & 'DEC 18 1918' handstamp both in violet on the address panel, Cat $10,000. [The admonition remained unchanged, inadvertently referring to the 'penny rate of postage', which was continued on the issued cards!]

'CLIFTON GARDENS' exists only in this format, making it the rarest of all the views: only one other example - a similar proof numbered "2" - is recorded.
