1959-64 Definitives 8d Tiger Cat award-winning one-frame exhibit with copy of the original design signed "Eileen Mayo" {5/10}, original sketch for Royal FDC artwork, die proof in recessed mount, Post Office publicity card with block of 4, then highly specialised array of Retouches and Re-Entries including in mint blocks & notably including ShC R9/6 States I & II both used, and State III & IV (the Typhoon Retouch) blocks of 4, also a few covers including domestic with a block of 9, single on local double-rate cover (5d+3d for the second ounce), & single on a complete parcel label, generally very fine. The lot also includes some other reference material including positional blocks, 100+ parcel tags, and a quantity of used duplicates. Ex John Sinfield. (Qty 100s)

1964-65 Birds original artwork for the 2/- Golden Whistler in black & colour pencils on tracing paper (180x238mm) ACSC #418E(1), artist's endorsements at the base re colours & at top "Rough idea for Golden Whistler" which proved, with '2/-' placed lower, to be the accepted design, initialled at L/R "BTW" = Betty Temple-Watts who designed the whole series, Cat $3000.

ERIC WILLIAM OGDEN: Eric Ogden produced a small number of FDCs for most issues between 1949 & 1965. They were variously hand-painted or screen-printed entirely or in part. All those offered here are signed "E Wm Ogden" & are unaddressed. This is the most extensive selection we have offered. See also Lots 212 & 213.

1949 Henry Lawson 2d tied to handpainted cover by 'BRIGHTON RD S3/17JE49/ VIC-AUST' cds. [This was the first issue for which Ogden produced FDCs. Six covers are known, all with different designs. Ogden's handpainted covers have often sold for more than $500 each] NB: the illustration is above Lot 224.
