1902-04 Thin 'POSTAGE' 1/- brown with 'POSTAGE' & 'ONE SHILLING' in Brown-Red ACSC #S30 (SG 275c), superb 'PARCEL PO/ DE20/02/S-A' cds, faint bend, Cat $2000 (£1100). Ex Ed Williams: sold at the Prestige auction of 26.1.2002 for $1456. RPSofV Certificate (2001). [One of the most obvious & attractive examples of this error. On many stamps the brown-red is not as pronounced] NB: the illustration is above Lot 518.
1892-99 Tablets 'Colour Scheme' Appendix Sheet dated "June 18th 1891" with Imperium essays in purple x8 or green x4 with the Value Tablet in various colours on Blank Field x4 or on Lined Field x8 each with 'TASMANIA' added by hand in Chinese white, proposed denominations in manuscript alongside the essays, light stain at left from where the original artwork for the 2½d on tracing paper had been affixed. An outstanding exhibit. Ex De La Rue Archives: illustrated in the De La Rue work by Frank Walton RDP at page 6249. [A single similar essay sold at the Prestige auction of 12.5.2007 for $25,300. RHODESIA: 1905-24 Rhodesia issues with 1905 'RHODESIA' Overprints 1d block of 8 & Waterlow Imprint block of 4 (both **), 6d two blocks of 4, 1/- strip of 4, 2/6d & £1, 1909 Surcharges '5d' on 6d marginal block of 6 (**) & punctured 'SPECIMEN' set, good range of Admirals to £1 SG 242 (unused) including 1d block of 40 with Waterlow Imprint (some toning but **), 3d block of 4, 2/- x4, 2/6d, 3/- x3, 5/- x4, 7/6d SG 252, etc, and 1917 'Half/Penny' on 1d pane of 60 - no margins, most units ** - with Wider Spaced Lettering varieties, some hinge remainders noted but generally very fine, Cat £4000 approximately. Personal assessment is recommended.
RHODESIA: 1910-13 Double Heads comprising ½d x4, 1d block of 4, 2d x3, 2½d pair & block of 4, 3d x2, 4d x4, 5d x3, 6d x9, 8d, 1/-, 2/- x3, 2/6d, 5/- x4 (one with Clandestine Roulettes) & 10/-, some with SG numbers noted but personal assessment is recommended, large-part o.g. some with hinge remainders but generally very fine, Cat £3500+ minimum, not including the clandestine roulette. A beautiful lot.
RHODESIA: 1910-13 Double Heads 5d purple-brown & ochre Error of Colour SG 141ab, well centred with vivid colours, insignificant perf thin at the top, Cat £650.
RHODESIA: 1910-13 Double Heads 2/- (exceptional centring, small stain) & 3/- both with Gash in the Queen's Ear, large-part o.g. with hinge remainders, Cat £1000+ minimum. [In a footnote, Gibbons states the catalogue price for these popular varieties is "3 to 5 times normal"]
SIERRA LEONE: Attractive collection with 1872-73 4d & 1/- imperf plate proofs plus set of four undenominated plate proof pairs with 'CANCELLED' Overprint, ½d on 1½d with 'PFNNY', 1896-97 to 5/- x3, 1897 '2½d' on Stamp Duty 6d x23 including block of 10 (**) & SG 61, some KEVII & KGV blocks of 4, 1912-21 10/-, 1932 set to £1, Wilberforce to 2/- x2 + ** 5/-, 1938-44 set x2, 1956-61 Pictorials plus £1 ** block of 6, range of later issues including blocks of self-adhesives & '30c' on 1/6d Double Overprint One Inverted SG 374a, a few 'REVENUE' Overprints including QV 1/- block of 4, etc, a few problems in unmentioned earlier issues but generally very fine, Cat £2000+ plus the proofs.
