NEW SOUTH WALES
1850-51 Sydney Views ONE PENNY: Plate I (No Clouds) 1d carmine SG 2 horizontal pair [13-14], margins close to good, light BN '44' of Yass, Cat £1000+.
1850-51 Sydney Views Plate IV (Circles in Centre of Stars) Yellowish Vertically Laid Paper 2d Prussian blue horizontal pair [20-21] the first stamp with Fan with Six Segments SG 35/b & both units with part-Papermaker's Watermark, large even margins with outer framelines except at the top, two very fine strikes of BN '57' of Raymond Terrace, Cat £700++. Superb! BPA Certificate (2013) states that the L/H unit has a vertical crease. However, we can't see it & we think the Committee was mesmerised by the lines in the laid paper!
1856-60 Small Diadems 2d deep dull blue horizontal pair [104-105] - almost full margins, just clear to touched along the top - the first unit with the Second Major Retouch (Extensive Retouching of the Head & below the Neck) and both units affected by a major Blistered Plate variety, just tied to piece by Rays '66' of 'SINGLETON' (b/s of AU19/1859). A technically important piece: illustrated in 'Stamps of NSW' by Guy Hutson at page 34. Ex Guy Hutson, 'Manwood' (acquired privately), and 'Carrington' (Mark Dankin).
