REGISTRATION ENVELOPES - OFFICIAL: 1891 stampless linen envelope with printed 'REVENUE REMITTANCE/ ...' address & instructions on the flap to the postmaster in accordance with which the mailbag seal 'POST OFFICE/[crown]/WALCHA' was impressed in wax to seal the flap but broken on opening, 'WALCHA/ NO28/1891/=NSW=' b/s, minor blemishes. A very rare item & the only example we have seen. [There would have been many thousands of these envelopes but almost certainly they were supposed to have been destroyed]

REGISTRATION ENVELOPES: Annotated collection of mostly McCorquodale issues with shades, papers & knives noted & some duplication, 14 of them are used & one has an unusual 'SPECIMEN' Handstamp, also Melbourne Printings 100x64mm (Australia's smallest Registration Envelope) unused, 130x78mm unused & very late but apparently commercial usage in 1927, 127x78mm unused x2 & superb used x2 and 230x110mm unused (spotty), condition variable but generally fine to very fine with only a few of the earlier issues affected by the characteristic shrinkage. REGISTRATION ENVELOPES: 1903 Melbourne Printings 4d ultramarine size 230x100mm with V-cut below the flap #R4d (HG C4a) commercial usage to Bohemia underpaid with Pictorials 1d x2 only but not taxed tied by Hobart cds of 12MAY12, 'NAPOLI PORTO' transit b/s, on arrival redirected internally, minor flap repair. Rare: only two other commercially used examples have been recorded, along with several philatelic usages. [David McNamee's example had a mutilated flap. The other example - a small piece of the flap missing - sold at our auction of 24.11.2018 for $1198]

A few mint examples have been recorded, but none postally used. In our opinion, this is the rarest item of Tasmanian Postal Stationery. Ex Australia Post Archival Sale No 1 (Feb 1987). [David McNamee's similar example sold at the Prestige auction of 2.5.2014 for $1747]
