1850 part-entire to "D Ramsay Esq/Dobroyde/Sydney" with a magnificent Sydney Views Earliest Impression 2d deep blue SG 16 (margins good to huge with almost complete outer framelines) tied by light & indecipherable BN of 'BATHURST' (faint b/s), 'SYDNEY/[crown]/MY*9/1850/NEW SOUTH WALES' arrival b/s, reinforced filing folds well clear of the stamp. [David Ramsay first arrived at Sydney in 1820, and permanently in June 1823 where he established the trading business Raine & Ramsay. 1888 local usage of Walter Akhurst & Co Printing Works illustrated advertising cover with the firm's details on a 'blackboard' & Centennial 1d affixed alongside what appears to be an advertising label for the firm but which is actually printed on the envelope, Sydney duplex cancel, part of the flap removed otherwise superb! A rare item that, in our opinion, is one of the most outstanding of all Australian advertising covers. [The only other example known to us sold at a Melbourne auction in 2017 for $655]

A very rare franking. [The late usage suggests a philatelic origin. However, the Type 9 duplex is recorded 1899-1907 only & we suggest that the year slug '01' was inserted upside-down, which was quite a common occurrence] The illustration is above Lot 209.
