1889 (Oct 7) cover from Wurttemberg with 10pf pair tied by 'URACH' cds to "Finschhafen/Kaiser Wilhelmsland/Neu Guinea" & endorsed "Via Genoa", 'GENOA' & 'SOERABAJA' transit backstamps, surprisingly fine for such an early inwards item. Ex Fred Pearson & Michael Courtis: sold at our auction of 19.6.2015 for $2340. [The first postal agency in German New Guinea opened at Finschhafen 15.2.1888, and closed 19.3.1891. This is one of the earliest inwards items to New Guinea that we have seen. [The addressee, Dr Carl Weinland was Medical Officer with the Neu-Guinea Compagnie]

1946 airmail to Netherlands serviceman at Navy HQ Batavia with Transports 10c & 30c x2 tied New York Bronx Station 'JAN7/1946' cancels paying 70c pre-WWII Pacific Clipper rate, censored on arrival with very fine strike of 'MARINE POSTKANTOOR BATAVIA/No.15' cachet in violet endorsed "Soerabaja" and '[NETHER]LAND/GEOPEN CENSURRDIENST' brown re-sealing label tied '5564' cachet on face, couple of minor blemishes. A most unusual destination with scarce post-war censorship markings. [See also Lot 815 under Cocos Islands]
