WESTERN AUSTRALIA - Postal History
1899 (June 26) large red parcel piece (194x114mm) to Belgium with DLR 2d grey x2 ried by fine 15-bar '21' cancels (LRD), 'VASSE' cds alongside, endorsed "Printed papers only", ironed-out folds. Ex Dr Walkley: acquired for a paltry $345. Pope & Reynolds Census #41. The printed matter rate was 1d per 4 ounces or part thereof so the parcel weighed between 12 & 16 ounces.̃̃In our opinion, parcels and other non-letter rate mail are a grossly underappreciated and undervalued field.
