NEW SOUTH WALES - Postal History
1888 local usage of Walter Akhurst & Co Printing Works illustrated advertising cover with the firm's details on a 'blackboard' & Centennial 1d affixed alongside what appears to be an advertising label for the firm but which is actually printed on the envelope, Sydney duplex cancel, part of the flap removed otherwise superb! A rare item that, in our opinion, is one of the most outstanding of all Australian advertising covers. [The only other example known to us sold at a Melbourne auction in 2017 for $655]
LOCAL STAMPS: 1860s Murray Steam Navigation Company ½d black ('HALF PENNY') to 3d green, large-part o.g. As fine a set as we have seen.
VICTORIA - Revenues
Selection with 35/-, £5 pink x3, Large £6 to £9, and £10 mauve x2, unusually fine with no pinholes.
Stamp Statute selection comprising 6d, 1/- x4, 2/- x14 (including a pair on postal piece & four apparently unused), 2/6d x6, 5/- x8, 10/- x4, £1 x18 including pairs & a strip of 3, and £5 x2 (one mss cancelled; the other with central punch), condition variable.
1884-96 Large Stamp Duty array sorted into packets with large numbers of most values including 15/- mauve (33, most with faults), 15/- brown x100+, £1/5/- x50 approx, £1/10/- x40 approx, £2 x200+, 45/- x200+, £5 x20 approx & £10 x40 approx, a few multiples noted, condition variable but generally fine. A remarkable holding & excellent research opportunity.

1884-96 Ultra High Values Litho £25 x7 (two with the Watermark Inverted & two with the Watermark Sideways), £50 x4 (one with the Watermark Sideways) & £100 x3 (two with the Watermark Sideways), good range of shades, manuscript cancels, minor pinholes otherwise fine to very fine.
1886-96 Ferguson & Mitchell High Values £5 to £9 six sets unusually well centred & with no pinholes, manuscript cancellations.
Commonwealth Period post-1901 Perf 11 45/- bright lilac marginal block of 6 (3x2) from the right of the sheet, manuscript cancels, full unmounted o.g.! A rare multiple.

Commonwealth Period post-1901 Perf 11 £5 blue & claret, a few short perfs & light gum-bend, large-part o.g. Very scarce mint.
Commonwealth Period post-1901 Perf 11 Stamp Duty Ultra-High Denominations £25 dull blue-green apparently lifted from a document but with large-part o.g. & no trace of a cancellation. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2018) states "Genuine in all respects...shows no trace of any cancellation...great rarity in mint condition". [NB: the pre-1901 Recess £25 unused is catalogued at £60,000]

COOLGARDIE CYCLE EXPRESS COMPANY: Camels 6d 2/6d (unmounted) & 5/-, virtually full (sandy) o.g. One of the finest sets we have seen.

LAKE LEFROY GOLDFIELD CYCLE MAIL: Swan 6d pink/pale green, well centred with the perforations better aligned than usual, small defects, unused. Reynolds & Pope Census #M36 of the 43 unused examples recorded. One of the few examples that don't have significant faults.
LAKE LEFROY GOLDFIELD CYCLE MAIL: Swan 6d pink/green, the perforations more regular than usual, characteristic thins, small repaired tear at the base & repaired 17mm vertical tear at U/R, manuscript "H&M" cancellation. Despite the faults, the facial appearance is well above average. Ex Phil Collas. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2002). [This is #U6 in the Reynolds & Pope Census]
