1914 Cole's Book Arcade (Melbourne) cover to England with late combination franking of ½d Roo + WA ½d tied by Melbourne machine cancel, minor blemishes.
AUSTRALIAN COLONIES - General
Pre-WWI financial instruments virtually all from Tasmanian firms including illustrated types & others with elaborate engraved features, with a good variety of revenues including embossed Platypus types, mostly negotiated in Victoria with further revenues including embossed types, several with "collection" slips affixed, condition variable but generally fine to very fine. A very attractive & desirable collection.
NEW SOUTH WALES - Postal History
1903 usage of 3d Registration Envelope to New Zealand with scarce albeit philatelic franking of 10d violet tied by Sydney cds, Dunedin arrival b/s & readdressed to Wellington with 3d Birds for redirection fee added & tied by 'DUNEDIN/ R ' cds & boxed registration cachet in red alongside, 'WELLINGTON' arrival b/s. Most unusual. [The rate was 2d per ½oz & it seems unlikely - though not impossible - that the contents weighed between 2 & 2½oz]
