C of A - Flight Covers
1921 (Dec 4) overpaid philatelic cover to Broome with values to 1/- tied by oval 'REGISTERED/ 2DE21/PERTH WA' d/s & red/black registration label, fine strike of the 'PERTH DERBY/4DE21/WA/ AERIAL MAIL' cds at upper-left AAMC #56a, light strike of triple-oval 'POST & TELEGRAPH DEPT/19DEC1921/POSTMASTER BROOME' arrival b/s in violet, vertical fold passes between stamps. [A series of mishaps resulted in the mail being returned to Perth & despatched by sea]
CEYLON - Flight Covers - Commercial
1936 (Aug 1) commercial airmail cover to London with 25c 10c & 9c paying the 44c rate (9c postage + 35c airmail surcharge) tied by Colmbo cds, smudged strike of the boxed 'DAMAGED BY SEA/WATER' h/s (Nierinck Type b)applied to mail recovered from the "Scipio" which crashed at Crete. [Nierinck states "The stamps are missing from nearly all covers"]
FIJI - Postal History
1956 (June 6) Vacuum Oil advertising cover to Samoa with KGVI 2˝d Map tied by Suva cds, two good to superb strikes of the rare 'SOILED MAIL EX VASU' h/s in violet, remarkably fine with only minor wrinkling from immersion in the ocean. [While en route from Suva to Apia, the "Vasu" blew up & sank off Tonga. Only a small amount of mail was recovered]
Damaged by Sea Water: 1937 "Cygnus" airmail crash cover with Ramsay Main imprint at L/L & stamp washed-off, not recorded from Fiji by Bryan Jones; 1968 local wreck cover from Lomaloma to Suva, h/s on reverse; and 1972 airmail to Tonga, stamp washed-off & the cover attractively stained, also not recorded by Jones.
