TASMANIA - Postal History
1894 (Feb 13) OPSO locally used envelopes for Lands & Works Department (with the enclosure) or Tasmanian International Exhibition (with the Frank h/s in rosine) both to "Captaine de Chauliac/French Warship Scroff" (!) or "...Scorff". [Between 1887 & 1908, a Franco-British Naval Commission operated in the waters of New Hebrides & New Caledonia. The 'Scorff' was one of the French vessels, which also made occasional visits to Australian ports. It had arrived from Dunedin (NZ) on 12.2.1894]

Large carton with an attractive Japanese group including Geishas, box of South Africa x100+, 'History of the Postcard' including a lovely group of British cartes de visite with four of Queen Victoria in mourning, original artwork on artboard for five humorous cards, Valentines '12/Permanent Photographic Views/of/The Great White City/London 1908' packet with 11 of the views (not PPCs), Star Series 'Naval Life' album of 36 rouletted real photo cards of shipboard activites, 'Postmen of the World' series of 48 trade cards, 1914 & 1936 German albums with German Colonies cigarette cards (?) affixed within, etc etc. A collection for the serious postcard afficionado.

NEW ZEALAND: 1926 Hugh & GK Neill Dunedin Exhibition real photo PPC of crowd in front of entrance to the Amusements Section with Exhibition ½d green & 4d violet tied to the viewside by 'DUNEDIN EXHIBTION/22MR26/NZ' cds. Great shot!

INDIA: 1911 to Yendon (Vic) with KEVII 1a tied 'FIRST AERIAL POST/[aeroplane]/1911/U.P. EXHIBITION ALLAHABAD' h/s in magenta, 'ALLAHABAD/18FE.11' and 'BOMBAY/20FE/11' b/s, closed tears at top & minor staining at L/L. Carried on the world's first official powered flight airmail service by french aviator H Pequet in a Sommer Farman-type biplane from the United Provinces of Agra and Ouhd Exhibition to Naini Junction, a distance of about six miles. The only example from this important flight recorded to Australia. [The addressee Clyde Fiskin won the House of Representatives seat of Ballarat at the 1934 Federal elections.]
NORTH BORNEO: 1922 Malaya-Borneo Exhibition 1c Tapir horizontal pair with 'BORHEO' & 'BORNEQ' Errors SG 253a & b, well centred, the latter with light vertical crease, Cat £825+. BPA Certificate (1934).
